BIRD CLUB.
Domic Bryan warned the club
members that the long lean back-alley
cat with no home and a Urge family
of kittens will devour the last of the
(cardinal's young ones with a »ulp,
knock down a robin, and lie in ambush
half a *ay for a mocking bird.'
She is a greater enemy of birds than
snakes, squirrels, hawks, ioxer and
owls and should not be allowed to
roam at will.. •
George Manning read an article
saying /or six thousand yean the
Eagle has had more symbolic attributes
than any other bird in the
world. By the Act of Congress June
20, 1782, the BsM Eagle was official;
ly made our National Emblem and It
was formally launchced at the time
of President Washington's first inauguration,
April 80, 1789, in New
Yojk City. The image of the Bald
Eagle is engraved on the Coat of
Arms of the Great Seal of the United
States; it appears on the President's
flag and on many of our coins
as well M on those "many foreign
countries. '
When a pair ef Eagles mate they
dwell in''true conjugal fidelity until
one dies, whereupon the one surviving
chooses a new companion. They
travel in pairs, not in flocks, and attack
any foe bird, beast or human
being in defense of their young.
One of the most remarkable characteristics
of this bird is its sight.
It has been known to see its prey
at least two miles away.
