THE CHRISTIAN CHURCH A guest speaker, Mrm. R. A. Doan, Indianapolis, Ind., who is vice-president of the United Christian: Missionary Society, will brine the message at the Christian Church, Sunday, at the It o'clock service. Mrs. Doan was, for a number off yean, a missionary in Japan. Begins Fortieth Year The pastor of the Christian Church, the Rev. C. B. Maahburn, will begin his fortieth year in the ministry on Sunday. Nearly half of this number has been spent in Farmville in two periods, he having answered a second call to this pastorate after an absence of 15 years. Possessing the rare combination of vision and common sense, together with other indispensable qualities for success in the field of religious endeavor, the Rev. Mr. Mashburn has been zealous in the cause of Christ and loyal to his calling throughout the 39 yean. SERIES OF SERVICES Rev. E. S. Coatee, assisted by Rev. Hayes Clark of Greenville began a series of services at Ballard's Monday which are continuing through Sunday, Nov. 4. A great deal, of interest is being manifested and a splendid attendance reported. Presbyterians at Ballard's were organized Dec. 1944 and now have 40 Church members, who have completed plans to erect a Church building as soon as materials are available. A fine meeting was held last week at Carraway's Chapel when 12 new members were added. Carraway's membership has recently installed electric lighting in their building. ALTAR GUILD Mrs. T. S. Ryon was hostess to the Episcopal Altar-Guild on Tuesday evening at her home which was decorated with lovely roses. Mrs. R. C. Copenhaver presided and opened the meeting with the Creed and piayw. The hostess served coca-colas, crax and candy during the social hour. PRESBYTERIAN JUNIORS The Presbyterian Junion met this week with Walter Burgess. Carol Butts chose as her devotional subject, "The Lost Sheep." The group completed its cnrrat study of "The Life of Jesus," at tbjs time with Jaas Spencer in charge of the program on "His Ministry." In closing the 23rd Psalm was repeated in unison. In the social hour, nuts, cookies and cold drinks were served,' Plate decorations and favors were suggestive of the Hallowe'en season.
