Mr* Hoekaday died Saturday morn
ing at 6 o’clock. She was the widow
of W. F. Hoekaday, who died in 1936.
• She was the daughter of the late W,
F. Marsh and Jeanette Isabelle At
kins and was bom in what is now the
Town of Lillington. She spent most
of her life in Lillington add taught
school in her early life. Mr*. Hock
aday was the only daughter in a fam
ily of seven children and the eldest.
Surviving are: four daughters, Mrs.
M. B. Gardner of Angier, Mr* J. J.
'Ktchner of Garner, Mr* D. A Bla
lock of Bunnlevel and Min Belle
Hoekaday of the home; two sons, W.
F. Hoekaday of the home and James
B. Hoekaday of Fannville; 12 grand
children and one great grandchild.

program at the Rotary Club, Tues>
day night of last week. He present
ed the Rev. Frank M. Ron, who In
troduced a member of Rocky Mount
Alcoholics Anonymous who gave a
very enlightning and graphic picture
of a problem that has become para
mount in the United States.
The speaker asserted that alcohol
inn is a physical alergy coupled with
a mental obsession and is the 4th
ranking disease in the nation. He
estimated that there are between 67
70 million users of alcohol and that
4 to 6 nullion of that figure are con
firmed alcoholics.
Giving some history on the AA
organization he pointed out that it
was began 17 years ago and there are
now 146,000 members in the U. S.
compared until 200,000 in the world.
