It is the mechanism concerned with the correlation and integration of various bodily processes and the reactions and adjustments bf the ‘ organism to its environment. In addition, the cerebral cortex is concerned with conscious life.. The cerebro spinal nerves are associated with the functions of the special and general senses and with voluntary move ments of the body.. The sympathetic nerves transmit the impulses which regulate the movements of the v * . i i -> C, . | viscera (internal organs, such as the heart lungs, stomach, intestines, etc.) determine the caliber of blood vessels and control the phenomena of secretion.” THE MECHANISM OF LIFE Thus it will be seen that the nervous system not only controls the special senses, such as sight, hearing, touch and taste, and all movements of the body, as in walking, but also controls the functioning of all inter nal organs, and regulates their activity in manufactur ing secretions. The function of the nervous system is to develop and distribute nerve energy in exact pro portions to the needs of the body. TVS A. Disturbance of any one of these functions is an ex pression of ill health or disease, and herein lies "The Story of the Spine,” for Chiropractors have found that it is at the spine in at least ninety per cent of all cases that such disturbances occur. THE PART THE SEINE PLAYS IN DISEASE Through openings between the bones of the spine pass the spinal nerves which unite the central nervous - system with various other structures of the body. It is upon the integrity of these nerves that health de pends When one or more of the bones of the spine be comes slightly out of place it presses upon the nerve ’ and interferes with the passage of nerve energy over X the nerve to whatever organ is controlled and regu lated by the affected nerve. The organ is thrown out of harmony with the remainder of the body, it is ren dered weak and unable to resist disease. Where there is no cause there can be no disease. Chiropratic removes the cause.
