Hill Abemethy. which occurred ■$p’ckxk Sunday night at Griffith, five miles south of Charlotte on the Columbia and Aguata devision of the South ,$•*l*1?* Mr- Abemethy, met his death by jumping, it la supposed, from e teat moving train, his head struck the five mfle poat at that point. He had been working at Griffith and was returning to that point from Port Mill. The train, which was a fast niail, does not stop at the station named and it is though that the unfortunate man made an attempt to get off. Death probably resulted immedi ately as the skull was badly crashed. Mr. Abemethy was 36 yean okl and lived at Alexia in the country, where a wife and six children are left to mourn the untimely end of'husband and father. Mr. and M/n. G. W. Abemethy and their nephew, Mr. Oscar Hansel]. attended the funeral at Alexia Tuesday, re turning to Gastonia that night. Garrison spent Sunday in town. .Rev. F. H. Rossiter, of Henderson, is conducting an in terestlng series of meetings at the M. K. church. Mias Lizsie Kennedy has been confined to the house the past few days by illness. , Mr. J. M. Sharpe, of Charlotte, is the Secretary and Treasurer, th* Bessemer City Cotton mill here. Mr. Sharpe held a similar position with the Victor mill at Charlotte. Bishop J. M. Homer, of Ash ville, preached at the M. E. church Sunday afternoon at 4 o’clock. He was assisted by Rev. W. R. Wetmore, of Lin colnton, and Rev. D. T Johnson, of High Shoals. Com munion services were held Mon day A. M. at 10 o'clock. Mrs. J. H. Wilkins, and Mims Amy Lynch left Sunday for Rutherford ton, A CAD or THANKS. Webb authorise* the announcement that no cose from McAdenvflle or from the neigh borhood in which small pox now prevails will be tried at the term of anr Court which convenes next Monday, and that all snitors and witnesses who reside at Me Aden ville or within the territory in which small pox is now epidemic need not attend said term of Court. Defendants residing in said community should at once arrange through the ™il« to give bond for their appearance at September term. The Clerk of the Court will iorward bonds for execution upon request. You will also please announce that Dallas has quarantined against McAdenville and the in fected district and will enforce the ordinance until the present conditions are relieved. By giving publicity to these matters you will confer a favor npon the people interested. The case of State vs. Brimer will not be tried at next term. There ore about thirty witnesses in that case and they all reside at or near McAdeuville.
