The first meeting of the year, this session brings an immense amount of matter to be disposed of. Yesterday many road ac counts and other bills, were audited and paid. Hall requests us to announce that the regular meeting of the Gaston County , Teachers' Association which was scheduled to be held in Gastonia on Saturday, January 12tb, has been postponed to Saturday, January 26th. J Fire Escape. - V Workmen ate engaged to-day in putting up a fire escape on the east side of the Craig & Wil son building leading from the central offices of the Piedmont Telephone ,& Telegraph Com pany to the sidewalk. This will afford great protection to. the telephone operators and others employed on the third and sec ond stories of this building. . . New Boarding House. r V : Mr.' W. M. Nolen ' has moved his family , to Gastonia from Pleasant Ridge and has rented the Walton House in the rear of the Falls House where he will conduct a boarding house. , He is putting the house in snajpe and installing furniture and will be ready for business at an early date. Two thousand-Additional feet of cable is being installed- as is also a new switchboard. ' The Lincoln- ton exchange now ; has nearly 300 phones and the business , there is increasing rapidly. Moffatt upon his new duties ; as -president of Erskine College, Due West, S. C, the Associate Reformed Pres byterian of a recent, date says: "Dr. J. S. Moffatt and family arrived in Due West on last Monday evening. They . are cordially welcomed by-every4n- dividual in Due West and have the, heartiest good will of stu dents, faculty and citizens. Dr. Moffatt attended chapel exercises on Tuesday morning and . was presented by Dr. F. Y. Pressly to the student body. After devotional exercises the retiring president made a short aidress and the incoming president re sponded. .Dr. Presslycalled for three cheers to the new presi dent, to which the student body heartily responded. The new president starts off under bright anspices. - Bank Stockholders Meet. The stockholders of the Citizens National Bank ' held their regular annual : meeting this morning at 10 o'clock in the bank parlors. Mr. C. B. Arm strong and Mr. W. T. Love were added to the board of directors all the old . members being re elected. - The old directors are Messrs. R. ' P. Rankin, C. N Evans, A. G. Myers, J, A. Glenn and J. M. Sloan. Immediately following the stockholders' meet ing, the directors met and; re electe'd Mr, R. P. Rankin presi dent and Mr. A. G. Myers cashier. , Mr. W. H. Adams was elected teller. The affairs of the bank were found t to be in ex cellent condition. Io the Davis Block. Secretary J. L. Beal of the Gaston Poultry Associatian has been fortunate in securing, for the first annual exhipUf,o. fowls to be held in Gastonia January 22-25. the store room in the Davis block just vacated by J. There are a number of radical changes on this division and the new ar rangement, taken all round, seems to be satisfactory - for local patrons of the road. The Charlotte morn- ing papers are also here earlier. Formerly they were '- brought out on No. 39 at 8 o'clock.
