"V Atlanta. Ga.. July 11. Prcs ident Harvie Jordan, ol the Southern Cotton Association announced to-day that, begin xxiog the latter part of July he would address mass meetings in every State of the cotton belt President Jordan will discuss bis investigations in Europe in re gard to the baling, handling and marketing of American cotton. He will urge on the farmers the necessity of as slow a move ment of cotton as possible in or der to maintain. a high level 6? prices. In this connection, Mr. Jordan decia-ed tnat tne price of cotton next fall, he believed, would be the highest in twenty years. The first of the mass meetings will be held in North and South Carolina. On July 19 he will speak at Garner, Wake county, N. C , and at Raleigh on July 20. Meetings will be held at Spartanburg, S: C, on July 30, Union on July 29, and Gaffney on July 31. Leaving these two States, Mr. Jordan will go to Texas, and in that State he will speak at ten of the largest cotton concentrat ing points in the State. Leav ing Texas he will go to Arkan sas, thence to Louisiana, then to Mississippi and Alabama, and will finish bis campaign in Georgia in the latter part of August. Mr. Jordan will be accom panied on his tour by General Organizer E. D. Smith, of South Carolina, commonly known as the "Cyclone Orator" of the Southern Cotton Association. Mr. Jordan and Mr. Smith have the co-operation of all the State presidents and the members of the executive committee of the association. Asked what he thought of the prospect for cotton next season, President Jordan said: "It it fine. I believe we shall realize prices higher than we have received for twenty years. Every indication points to that fact, and I shall especially urge on the farmers in my speeches the necessity of a slow move ment so as to maintain as high a level of prices as possible." President Jordan said that he expected good attendances at the meetings. He asks the gen eral co-operation of the press in this great farmers' movement. President Jordan's observa tions on his European trip will be of more than usual interest to cotton growers. While abroad he took particular pains to study cotton conditions there as they affected the buying and manu facture of the staple. He saw and compared the for eign cotton with American, and compared their methods cf bal ing. He talked with manufact urers, and learned their needs. He also noted interesting things about European business meth ods as compared with American. These observations he will embody in the series of speeches' he proposes to make through the cotton belt. He will also observe crop conditions in the belt. YORK AND YOUIIVILLD What's Doin Amonf oar Neigh bors Jost Across th Una. Yorkville Rnqulrer.'9Ui. ; " , ; The Victor OJ1 Co'a Ice sales ran over five tons last Saturday. C. H. Smith. . ... ,, ; Miss Rosa Lindsay , has sold several hundred post cards of the Confederate .monument and has quite a number on hand. Tbey constitute a very nice advertisement for Yorkville and should be generally scattered.-" j The Carolina and North Western railroad had more bust ness than it could attend to in connection with its Fanrth of July excursions. There : were more applications for transpor tation than could - be accom modated and all the trains ran late. There is a good deal of kicking upiheroad on account of the disappointment to , which so many people were subjected The work on the addition to the Neely Manufacturing com pany's plant is being pushed as rapidly as possible, and , will be two stories high, finished with concrete blocks, and wiu con tain rooms for offices for the president, secretary and super ntendenU . It is pretty generally conceded that the Fourth of July celebra tion under the auspices of the ocal camp of Woodmen of the World was one of the most sue cessful that has been held in the iedmont during a good many years past. Practically all thelo cal business men, including those who for one reason or another did not participate actively, are agreed that the show was a much bigger thing than they had anticipated and everybody is not only proud of it, but gen erous enougb to give the Wood men committee, Messrs. Wray, Miller and Wilborn full credit for their splendid work. While altogether the town probably spent more than a thousand dol ars on the day's entertainment it is a fact that the committee had only about $75 at its dis posal. The subscriptions - were not what they should have been; but tne fact tnat so much was done with so little is all the more to the credit of the com mittee. It is too ; long off to say what will be done next July. The present idea, however, is that there will be- another cele bration then. A number of peo pie have seen how the celebra tion of last Thursday could be many times enlarged with a lttle additional expense and the probability is that there' will be programme the next Fourth that will keep things in a hum all day.
