Pedestrians a n d others on Main street this morning about 9 o'clock 'or jihortlv thereafter were horrified to see,'.Vernon Fogle, a younatnal at work on one of the poles of the Piedmont Telephone & Telegraph Co., at the corner of Main and Marietta streets, fair-apparently. Jifeles3 across a cross-arm which he. was putting up. Assistance was immediately summoned and the limp body was removed at once to the offices of Drs. Reid and Glenn in the Adams drug store where medical treatment was at once begun. It was found that he was in pretty bad shape. though there were no' burns on his body. He remained - un conscious for several hours, de spite all efforts to restore him to consciousness. ; , On investigation it was dis covered that young Fogle had accidentally touched one of the high voltage wires of the city lgbt and power system, which are fastened to .the telephone pole, below the phone wires These wires are charged r with 2,300 volts of electricity, though it is probable that he did not re ceive the full force that the en tire voltage would nave given him. -It appears that here, as well as at other points in town the city's high voltage wires are either fastened to the telephone company's pwes idt swing so close, to them that the telephone SOCIAL. ' Young Fogle is a son of Mr. J. M. Fogle, superintendent of the manufacturing department of the . Yeager Manufacturing Company, He is 20 years of age and has been in the employ of the Piedmont Telephone Co. about two years, , most of that time as lineman. At 2,30 o'clock this afternoon Mr. Fogle's condition had taken no turn for the worse. He is resting tinder the influence of opiates and his physicians hold out strong hopes for his recovery. Lawyer Griffin Shot. Mr. F. F; Griffin, attorn ey-at- law, was shot jn the right leg by Mr. Charlie Johnson late Tues day afternoon, the shooting, it is reported, being accidental. As near as can be learned Messrs. Griffin and Johnson were just about to start on a drive to the country. Johnson - had a pistol in his hand. Griffiuure monstrated with him for' having it and a scuffle to gain posses sion of the weapon ensue-d, dur- in? the. course ot which it was accidentally discharged the bullet entering Griffin's leg. The shooting occurred in the Adams Drug Company's Loray store. Griffin wabrought down town and physicians probed for the bullet but were unable to extract it. He was removed to his home where he is confined to his bed. The wound is not thought to be serious and. un less complications arise, will probably heal up in a short time.
