C . nuprnKauv. a.-. -r,-. - o- ' ' Soo rct A&tca tu I ' Farmers ' wit Retard ( naaliM a tUlt Lasda-A Itily t "FarmarV v-.. - The Gazette it in receipt of the following communication from one of its readers at Fleas ant Ridget ' "Editor of The Gazette: "Are you not doing the. farm ers an injustice by proclaiming tost the banting season is at band? Has Gaston . county : not a law prohibiting the bunting of oat his consent or was this re pealed The man who petition ed for it to be repealed bad . to leave the county. Give as some information. "Parmer" Tne writer probably bas re ference to the following item which appeared in The Gazette of November 8th: "The bunt ing season for quail in Gaston county opens on Thursday. November 28th, Thanksgiving Day, and Continues till January 10th. According to a well known huntsman quail are pretty plentiful in the county this season and good sport is in prospect for the lovers of the game." "Farmer" evidently misin terpreted the import of the above item. We merely state that the hunting season opens on November. 28th. which., we believe " is correct. There is nothing in the item which can be. constructed to mean that any man has a right to hunt 00 any body's land. The open season merely means that the hunter has the right to hunt quail,- pro vided he can find somewhere to hunt. Daring tb closed season he could not hunt if every farm er in the 'county should give him permission to hunt on his lands. We find the following law on the subject in the Revisal of 1805, section 3,480, which, so far as we have been able to-learn. has never been repealed: ' "If any person shall, -without having first obtained permission of the owner, hunt with gun or dogs on the land of another, or if he shall fish or attempt to catch fish from said lands after being forbidden he shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and be fined not exceedingly fifty dollars or im prisoned not exceeding thirty days." This is very plain and seems to cover the point on which our valued friend Parmer desires information. ' trtrtnircAtSu- Uncoia Cuuutf Uku. Mr. R. C.vMcUan7"o! Gs. tonia, visited Mr. and Mrs. - li.
