Browne, depot agent of the Seaboard Air line at Cberryville. Torrence'a drug atore has an attractive Christmas window. It contains a revolving wheel of colored electric light. The window is decorated with holly. This week's issue of The Biblical Recorder contains an excellent half-tone cut of the late venerable Rev. W. R. Gwaltnev, D. D., of Hickory, who died last week. Accom panying the cut is a brief bio graphical sketch of the deceased Piof. Joe S. Wray went to Belmont Tuesday night to be with the newly organized coun cil of the Junior Order, and ad aressed the council on a subject of special interest to the order Prof. Wray was pleased to find such an enthusiastic crowd of Juniors and to find the order in such a flourishing condition During the next two or three weeks there wi'l be much coming and going. Gastonians who are away will come back to spend the yuletide season with hoinefolks, while some Gas tonians will go elsewhere for the same purpose, it you nave any visitors or if you are going away, call No. 50 and tell The Gazette about it. One of the prettiest Christ mas windows in tne city is one at Belk's. In a background of snowy cotton stands a cozy look in? red brick cottage with the mistress, Miss Dollie, just out side, while a snow bird is pick ing up crumos iroiu tne snow covered ground. The opposite window contains an elaborate display of toys for the holiday trade. To day is North Carolina Day in the public schools of the State and as such is being ob served by many of the schools in Gaston county. A well gotten up general program of the day was sent out bv State Superin tendent of Education J. Y. Joy ner and in most cases this is followed. The object of this day is to teach the pupils Stale pride history, and patriotism. The Scotch Singers have been engaged for the night of the 24th inst., Christmas eve, for an entertainment at the opera house. The proceeds are for the benefit of the Central graded school library. 1 be troupe is composed of Miss Tina Craw ford, contralto; Miss Jeanette Cuthill, first soprano; Miss Ella Campbell, second soprano and pianist; Miss Agnes Hyde, first contralto and reader. They come with high recommenda tions from the press at places where they have appeared.
