The article on how to grow chrysanthemums, appearing on page six of today's Gazette, is the article which the committee of the Gasto nia Woman's Betterment Association secured and furnished us for publi cation. Mention is made of this fact in order that the ladies interested might not confuse the article on the same subject in last Friday's Gazette with this one. The following dispatch from Raleigh dated yesterday is of con-; siderable local Interest, though we have been unable to learn any par ticulars about the proposed road: "A charter Is issued to the Isother mal Traction Company, of Ruther fordton, with $100,000 capital au thorized, $4,000 subscribed, K. S. Finch, J. F. Fleck and others to build an electric railway 50 miles long from Rutherfordton to Gasto nia." A much needed improvement at the local poatofflce is a money order window separate from the stamp window. The large increase in the business of the local postofflce with in the past two or three years would warrant such a change. It is al most a daily occurrence that there are a dozen or more people waiting to get to the stamp window at one time while some one or two people are purchasing money orders. That such an Improvement would be highly pleasing to the public does not admit of doubt. The citizens of Cherryville have been somewhat wrought up for the past week or more by a number of burglaries, several stores and the de pot having been broken into. On Wednesday afternoon two negroes, named Wells and Thompson, were arrested and tried before Mayor A. H. Huss on a charge of stealing and both were put under bond and sent to jail to await trial at the next term of court. Wells is said to have confessed to stealing corn fromthe crib of Dr. W. H. Houser, and there was sufficiently strong evidence to hold the other defendant also. A special from Lincolnton to The Charlotte Chronicle of Wednes day says that about 3 o'clock that morning a small blaze was discov ered in the old Cobb building on Main street, and for a short while much alarm was felt as this old building is right in the center of the business block of the town. But for the prompt action of the fire compa ny the damage would have 'been great. The building is owned by Long Bros., of Gastonia, they having recently purchased it from 'Mrs. B. C. Cobb. The house is unoccupied and in very bad condition and will soon be replaced by a new store room, by the enterprising gentlemen.
