Gave Officers a Chase. Police officers had a lively chase yesterday after a white man, Frank Bullis, who made a desperate effort to regain his liberty after having been arrested. Bullis was arrested by Chief Carroll and Policeman B. W. Craig on North Marietta street near the railroad. He walked along with them quietly until they were nearlng the city hall when he broke away from the officers and sprinted at a lively rate down South street. Chief Carroll took a shot at the flee ing, form and the man increased his speed. Mr. Parks Huffstetler was standing nearby ' with a horse and buggy. Policeman Craig jumped in the buggy with him and they started in pursuit of the fugitive. They caught him near Mr. M. T. Parham's on third avenue and tr ought him back to the city hall where he was placed behind the bars. Bullis, it is understood, came here recently from Virginia and is charged- with selling whiskey. Adds New Machine. The Ideal Roller Covering Com- Dany. no East Airline avenue, nas just added to its equipment a ma chine for covering comber rollers. It Is the only one of its kind in this sec- tio and gives this concern the very best possible equipment for covering rollers used by the cotton mills that manufacture fine yarns. There are three of these mills in Gastonia, the Gray, the Flint and the Old Mills. There is one at Lincolnton, the new Love Mill which has been in opera tion only a few weeks. This machine is made by A. E. Rich, Fall River, Mass., and is an expensive piece of machinery. It does the work with an exactness and a trueness that can not be secured either by hand or on the machines which cover rollers for use in making coarse yarns.
