Ai 0 "Our National Disgrace." New York Evening Post. "Typhoid fever is our national disgrace," declares The New York Medical Journal. The annual ty phoid death rate in 100,000 inhabi tants was, for the years 1901-1905, 7.6 in Germany, 11.2 in England and Wales, 35.2 in Italy, and probably not less than 4 6 In the United States. This means that during a single year there may be some 400, 000 cases in this country. When there are as many cases of cholera, yellow fever, or plague, there would be a universal panic; but the ty phoid, being always with us causes little comment. Since the discovery of the important part played by flies and other Insects In the dissemination of disease, it can no longer be said that "for every case of typhoid somebody ought to be hanged;" yet most of these cases are, nevertheless, due to criminal carelessness in the disposal of sew erage, the handling of milk and veg etables, and the fattening of oysters. This dangerous proceeding, which, moreover, utterly spoils the delicate flavor of the oysters, should be made punishable by imprisonment. Many thousands to whom raw oysters are an epicurean delight have ceased eating them, as is strikingly mani fested at public dinners. The Tam many health board frequently gave the oysterman certificates of good conduct. What has the nresent board to say on the subject? A fine of $50 and costs on L. K. Carter and ten days in jail on C. T. Lewis, was the sentence Judge Ward in Halifax court, passed on the above named for attempt to Influence par ties on jury in behalf of Powell. James rish, of .Yaldes, Alaska, aged 70, and a native of Manchester, England, started' April 1st on a trip to his birth place with the intention of covering on foot all the land por- tlons of his Journey. Tens of thousands of sufferers from hay fever and catarrhal asthma find great comfort and quick relief by breathing Hyomei. Of course where asthma is not caused by a catarrhal condition, but by nervous contraction of the bron chial tubes, Hyomei Is not recom mended. But in a case of asthma where there is a discharge of mucous, breathing Hyomei gives most wonder ful relief by soothing the Irritated and highly inflamed membrane. Mr. W. A. White. R. F. D.
