Myer, in showing how liTe Is linked with life in Influ ence for good In work for the world, said: "When Livingstone went to Africa there was a Scotch woman named Mrs. MacRobert, quite ad vanced in life, who had saved up thirty pounds, which she gave to the great missionary, saying: 'When you go to Africa, I want you to spare yourself exposure and needless toil by hiring some competent body serv ant who will go with you wherever you go, and share your sacrifices and exposures.' With that money he hired his faithful servant known as Sebawle. When the lion had thrown Livingstone down and crush ed the bones of his left arm and was about to destroy him, this man, see ing his critical condition, drew off the attention of the Hon to himself, thinking that he would save his master at the cost of his own Jife. The lion sprang at him, but Just at that moment the guns of other com panions brought him down, and Livingstone's life was prolonged for thirty years. Surely that . , noble Scotch woman, as well as the serv ant, should be credited with some at least, of the results of the noble devotion of that great missionary." In the great revival that has swept over Korea from hamlet to hamlet, telling of the awfulness of sin and the holiness of God, we think that we see a proof and a pledge that God will not only save Korea individually, but that he will make of her a power house of pray er for the whole Far East, bringing blessing to Japan and to the mil lions upon millions of all but hope less China. Exchange. A Century of Progress in Missions. The story of a century of foreign missionary achievement should thrill us with enthusiasm for the tasks which are yet before us: 1810. Nearly every country in Asia and Africa was closed to the gospel. The Church did not believe In for eign missions. There were practically no Protest nt Christians In heathen lands. Only one hundred foreign mission arles had been Bent out. The Bible was translated .into on ly sixty-five languages. Only a few thousands of dollars were given yearly for foreign mis- ions. There were no medical mission aries. There were no mission hospitals or orphanages. There was no native Christian ministry. Missionary work was not recog nized in American and British col leges. There were no unmarried women missionaries, and no organized work for women. There were no mission presses or agencies for preparing and distrib uting Christian literature in non Christian lands. 1910. Practicaly every nation in the world is open to missionaries. All evangelical churches are in terested in missions. To speak-a gainst missions is counted a dis grace, and a sign of ignorance. More than two million Protest ant Christians have been gathered in heathen lands besides all who have died in the faith. There are nearly twenty-two thousand foreign missionaries in the world. The Bible has been translated in to about five hundred languages and dialects. Total foreign missionary contri butions amount to nearly $25,000, 000 annually. Thousands of medical misaionar ies in the heathen lands treat three million patients a year. There are 400 mission hospitals and over 500 orphanages and asyl ums In foreign lands operated by missionaries. There are over six thousand un married women, missionaries to heathen women and children. There are about ' ninety-three, thousand native pastors, evangel ists, etc., working among their own people. There are nearly 30,000 schools and colleges conducted by Protest cnt missionaries in foreign lands. There are over 160 publishing houses and mission presses, and 400 Christian periodicals are published on the mission fields. Thousands of college students are on the mission field, and thousands are preparing to go. And yet today one billion people are still ignorant of the gospel of Jesus the Christ, the Son of God and Saviour of the world. Mission ary Review.
