June is the month set aside for tax-listing and only two more days are left in this month. The tax-listers are very anxious to see every man who has not yet list ed at once. This s Important and should not be longer neglected. The canning season Is now on. Reports from over the county indi cate that the blackberry crop is un usually large and there Is an abund ance .of apples, peaches and plums. The State Department of Agricul ture's bulletin for the month of May, recently issued, is a pamphlet on the home canning of fruits and vegeta bles. It consists of 24 pages and contains a large amount of very val uable information for canners. This pamphlet can be secured free of charge by any persons Interested by making application to the State De partment of Agriculture at Raleigh. Mr. W. Y. Warren received a letter Saturday morning from Super intendent John H. Campbell, of the State Insane Asylum at Morganton, stating that there was no change for the better in the condition of Mr. Lon Thomasson, who. was taken there from Gastonia the Monday previous. The patient is still very much excited, threatens to sue the town for incarceration and, states the superintendent, is quite hard to handle, giving them considerable trouble. Many of his friends had hoped that he would begin to show signs of improvement right away and are disappointed at the news which comes from the asylum. I FOR EARLY CLOSING. Mrs. L. L. v Jenkins Inaugurates Movement in Behalf of Clerki Merchants Asked to Close at Six O'clock During July and August Except on Saturdays. Mrs. L. L. Jenkins has inaugurat ed a movement to get the merchants of the town to agree to close their places of business at 6 o'clock every evening of the week except Saturday during the months of July and Au gust, beginning next Monday. She has already had assurances from a majority of the merchants that they favor the movement and will be glad to sign an agreement to that effect provided all the merchants of the town will follow suit. This after noon or tomorrow Mrs. Jenkins will see the merchants personally and ask them to sign such an agreement This movement is one which should commend itself to the serl ous consideration of every business man. It is a very easy matter at this season of the year to close he stores at 6 and It gives the tired clerks an opportunity to secure a little much-needed rest. Very little shopping is done after that hour anyhow in the summer time and if the buying public understood that they could not make purchases after that hour they would see that their shopping was done earlier in the day. The merchants would really be gainers by adopting this measure. The Gazette heartily endorses Mrs. Jenkins' movement and hopes that it will meet with the approval of all of Gastonia's merchants. I have used Hyomei for two weeks and find it the best preparation I have ever used for catarrh. Every cold I would catch seemed to go to my throat, and I had to use gargles for days at a time. Now when I catch a cold in the throat I use the Hyomei inhaler and this soreness disappears over night.
