Lizzie Hampton waa declared a pauper and allowed to go to the county home. The superintendent of roada was Instructed to examine the proposed public road from the corporate lim its of the town of Gastonia near R. W White's to the macadam road leading from Dallas to Cherryville and report to the board on the ad visability of adopting same as a pub lic road. A'. G. Mangum was elected county attorney for a period fit 12 months from date at a salary of $100 per year. Ransom Surratt was declared an outside pauper and allowed $4 per quarter with J. W. Kendrlck as a- gent. The following resolution was adopted:' Whereas the board of county commissioners did, in ac cordance with Chapter 89, Revisal of 1905, and as amended by the Gen eral Assembly of 1907, order an election to be held in Stanley Special School District, River Bend Town ship, Gaston county, to decide the question "Shall there be levied an annual tax not to exceed 30 cents on the $100 valuation or property end 90 cents on each taxable poll to supplement the public achool funds which may be apportioned' to said district by the County Board of Ed ucation, In case a majority of the voters of said district may declare for the special tax?" Said election was held on the 20th day of August, 1910 and "For Special Tax" received 77 votes, "Against Special Tax" re ceived 15 votes. Total number of registered voters was 109, all of whleh will appear upon the original returns set forth below, to wit: To tal registered voters, 109; total vote cast, 92; tor special tax, 77; against special tax, 15. It is therefore or dered end adjudged that "For Spe cial Tax" carried, as will appear up on the original returns. Messrs. M. D. Dellinger and R. L. McLurd, submitted a written protest against the levying of a special tax aa a result of the above election, which protest was ordered recorded upon the minutes. It was ordered that Chain Gang No 1 go to the Upper Stanley road and build three miles of road form erly surveyed and ratified, when work is completed on the Spencer Mountain road and repairs -made on the Gastonia and Lowell road. It was further ordered that when the upper Stanley road Is completed gang No. 1 shall go to Gastonia and New Hope road and build six miles of road, on condition that the peti tioners for said road pay the sum of $1,500 or 3,000 yards of stone to Gaston county, failure to make such payment to invalidate this order to build the road. It was further or dered that Chain Gang No. 2 should complete the present work on the Gastonia and Bessemer City road and then go to the Linwood and Pls gah road. Should the people on any road on which the chain gangs are working fail to furnish sufficient stone, work will be moved to anoth er road.
