Shuford Sheriff Gaston County They now claim they have learnt a lot since they made such a desper ate failure a rew years ago. Its been some time ago but that fellow Jimbo said Mary Ann promis ed us 15 cent cotton and we got It, too Now. you know that the far mer did not get 15 cents for his cot ton and you ought to be man enough to say that, on account of the schein ing and rotten legislation of your party and the strong arm that it throws around the cotton gambler to force the price down when the av erage farmer is forced to sell, then put the price up when he has sold the last bale which protects the speculator in both instances. This svstem of gambling, protected by your party alone, is working hard ships on all classes of people. If you really wanted to tell the truth on this scamp why didn t you say that back in lS'.M he promised the Re publicans of North Carolina, which Included all the negroes and some white people, whose general reputa tion was or a iuestionable character, that, if they would elect a solid He publican ticket, the affairs of North Caroilna would go into the hands of negroes and some few low-down white radicals and this State would have the proud distinction of having over one thousand negro office hold rs and, Jimbo, that same siotley rew gave us up-'raole reeking vr.nJ,ilo as tnose committed by ,V,o. GASTONIA; TUESDAY OCTOBER 25 A Reliable Medicine Xot a Narcotic Get the genuine Foley's Honey and Tar In the yellow package. It is safe and effective. Contains no opiates. Refuse substitutes. J. H. Kennedy & Co. 'Mr. Editor, possibly our patient readers of this arttcleWVll remem ber that Jimbo said that my top story was wrong, etc., but I venture the assertion, that any white man in North Carolina who would quote (as glibly as the devil ever quoted scripture) of anything that this de signing scalawag ever promised or did for the decent people of this grand old state, has no top story fit for a dwelling place for a Sampson county carrion eater and, should I ever so disregard myself and my neighbors by such assertions, I trust there will be enough patriotism and manhood in the community to cruci fy me between two sheep-killing dogs or two radicals. Now, Mr editor, as Jimbo gave me the first thrashing I am done, with these few pleasant remarks, though we are ev. er ready to pay respects to any and all such. Mr. Solomon N. Cone, member of the wealthy Cone family of Greens boro, was found unconscious In his bachelor apartments In Greensboro Saturday morning by his valet. Hlood was flowing from a bullet wound behind his left ear and a re volver was found lying on the floor. He was removed to St. Leo's Hos pital and is still living. No state ment has been given out as to how the shooting occurred. It was at first reported as an attempt at sui cide. Later reports state it was probably accidental but no state ment has been made by the man's family. Kor More Than Three Decades. Admission tickets and numbered reserved seats will be on sale show day At Frost Torrence and Cos Drug Store at exactly the same price charged in the regular ticket wagons on the show grounds If Mary Ann promised us 15 cent cotton why the don t he put it up before the farmer sells his last bale. If a Republican president, with the House and Senate three-fourths Republican, only run the cotton mills on an average of four days to the week, how much time would they run if the whole thing was Republican? If England, with open trade to the whole world, can buy her cotton from a high protective tariff coun- ry, keep her mills on full time and remain In a high state of real pros perity, then what's the matter with this high protected country of ours when we have the cotton right at our own door?. If, under the Cleveland panic, when the mills cut off one day in the week for a period of three months. man became hungry with whole some and cheap rations, how lone will it take us to starve to death with the mills running four days to the week the year round, with high prices for everything' he eats and wears. IN THE REALTY BUILDING Theodore Roosevelt was rhe prin cipal speaker at Saturday's session of the Southern Conservation Congress at Atlanta. Earlier in the day he spoke at Rome, Ga. In Atlanta he delivered two other addresses, one at the Uncle Remus Day Celebration, in which he spoke of the achieve ments of Joel Chandler Harris, the eminent Southern writer, and later to an audience of negroes. He was given a rousing welcome to the Georgia metropolis. Solomon-Norcross Company have completed more than a million dollars' worth of work, for municipalities' and individual clients. This world famous rifle shot who holds the championship record of 100 pigeons in 100 consecutive shots is living at Lincoln, 111. Recently interviewed, he says: "I suffered a long time with kidney and bladder trouble and used several well known kidney medicines, all of -which gave me no relief until I started taking Foley Kidney Pills. Before I used Foley Kidney Pills I had severe backaches and pains in my kidneys with suppression and cloudy void ing. On arising in the morning I would get dull headaches. Now I have taken three bottles of Foley Kidney Pills and feel 100 per cent better. I am never bothered with my kidneys or bladder and again feel like my own self." J. H. Kennedy ft Co. Webb Has Accomplished Much. Shelby Highlander. It Is charged that our congress man has been saying false things about Butler behind Butler's back. I do not believe It. Knowing the congressman as I do, I reject the idea. Another thing. While I know nothing of his reputation at Wash ington his RECORD is far ahead of the records of a vast number of nincompoops from North, South and West, who sit like owls upon the dry limb of a dead tree and hoot only when the big interests say hoot. Yates has worked hard and accom plished much. Our congressman could be the "tall end of the North Carolina dele gation" and still be ahead of a whole , lot of people I have heard of up , there.
