I lub and a large number of invited guests at a progressive trail parly. There were ten tables and Misses Hazellne and Kiliabeth Ix)ve punched the cards. A salad course was served. Mrs. Love was assisted by Mesdames Jno. K. Love, J. Grier Love and Mrs. J. A. Page, of Clover. The house was most attractively decorated in au tumn leaves for the occasion. In addition to the club members there were about fifty invited guests, all of whom thoroughly enjoyed Mrs. Love's hospitality. It Played Thunder With Him. Wilmington Star. Col. Bryan accused Col. Roose Telt of Stealing his fhunder. There la strong substantiating evidence in the fact that it played thunder with Roosevelt. Lexington had a big home coming celebration Wednesday and yester day. An industrial parade a mile long was one of the features Wed nesday. Ten thousand people were In aattendaace. Two negro employees of the Buck eye Cotton Oil Company, of Char lotte, were smothered to death Wed nesday afternoon In the company's seed house when they were buried beneath tons of cotton seed. During the aviation meet in Ral eigh Wednesday afternoon a very serious automobile accident occur red as the result of which one per son, a negro woman, is dead and several others are seriously and perhaps fatally injured. A Jackson car which Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Wool cott were racing around the course went wild and dashed from the track Into a crowd. On last Friday the football team of the Gastonia hich school went to Shelby to play the team of the Shel by high school. Superintendent Howerton and several of his boys met us at the train, giving the boys of the manufacturing city a hearty welcome. For dinner they enter tained our boys at the Hotel Wav erly. The greater part of the morn ing was siient by the Gastonians in seeing Shelby. Coach Wetzell re quired the team to have early din ner to get ready for the game at 3:30. The Gastonia boys were heavier than their opponents but the Shelby boys had the experience of a former game. In the write-up of the game by the Shelby paper our team was given very fair treatment. Shelby won one touchdown thereby making a score of five. Shelby was as man ly as boys could be with their vic tory; Gastonia took their defeat with equanimity. : ne couri nouse ana street car line are making Gastonia grow. On Thanksgiving Day at Loray Park Gastonia is going to do her very best to make up for her defeat by Shelby by giving that same crowd a drubbing that it will remember. Miss Bradley's room gave a de lightful entertainment in the school auditorium last night. It was well worth twenty-five cents but they on ly charged ten. In connection with the entertainment five of the high school boys contested for the place of representative of our school at the all-high school declamation con test to be held at Trinity College the 25th of this month. Mr. .Miles Thornburg won and he may well be proud of his honor for each one of his fellows did well. There was one thing to mar the pleasure of this delightful evening, the rudeness and misbehavior of some of the younger boys. So far as the superintendent is concerned he wishes to make all the money possible at each entertainment held in the auditorium, but he does not care for money gotten from anyone who comes to these entertainments to misbehave, thereby reflecting dis credit upon the school, the homes, There is Real Safety Voui Money IN THE 111 T.'IWP SOftr BEFORE ordering MAGA ZINES get clubbing cata logue and special offers and save MONEY.
