A policeman found Sadie Graham, aged 102, forcing her girl ish attentions on several men who were trying to keep her quiet. C, spent Sunday here with his sister. Miss Lillian Wal drop, who is visiting the family of ex-fc'heriff M. H. Shuford. Mr. and Mrs. Hunter Mauney and (wo children, of Long Shoals, and Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Shuford and child, of Lincolnton, were the guests Sunday of ex-PherifT'M. H. Shufora s family. They made the trip in Mr. Mauney's auto. - May, the eight-year-old daugh ter of Mr. A. G. Holmes, died Friday at Jhe City Hospital. Tho body was buried Saturday inHollywood cem etery following funeral services con ducted by Rev. J. II. Henderllte. A charter was issued Friday by the Secretary of State to the Mint Cola Bottling Works, of Dallas. The authorized capital stock of the com pany is J6.000, with $4,000 suD scribed and paid in by F. T. Patter son and others. The annual reception at Lln wood College will be given Thurs day evening of this week, from 7:30 to 10:30 o'clock. Quite a number of young men from Gastonia will at tend. Mr. J. F. Moore, of Boiling Springs, Cleveland county, spent Saturday here as the guest of his son, Mr. Odus L. Moore. He was ac companied by Mr. R. C. Moore, his nephew. Rock Hill Herald, "21: "W. B. Sutherland, of Hickory, N. C, has been appointed as agent of tho freight station here, succeeding H. W. McMillan, transferred to John ston. The change will become ef fective on December 1." Mr. Soutn erland was for a time a member oi the Southern's clerical force here and made many friends in Gastonia to whom this bit of news will be of interest. This will be the first experience of the parcel post department of tne postal service In handling Christmas business. Preparations are being made by the department to hairdle an immense amount of business. An addition to the usual slogan "shop early" may be added this year "send your packages by parcel post and do it early." Have a thought for the welfare of the postoffice employees over the country as well as for the clerks. Mill News, 20th: Mr. Charles A. Davis, of Stanley, who purcnaseii the old Mariposa Cotton Mill some time ago is having the machinery and entire mill overhauled and hopes to start work within the next two months. Mr. Davis will act as su perintendent and general manager of the mill when it is in operation. He is a man of considerable mill ex perience having been connected with the Manetta Mills, South Carolina for several years. The Mariposa Mill is a sniall mill of something over M.OCO swindles and has Deen idle for about two years. Mr. J. M. K'Lapp, the cabinet maker, is back at hjs place of busi ness over the People's Furniture Company's store after being out for two weeks on account of illness. He was critically ill for several days at his rooms in the Davis block. Mrs. K'lipp. who was at the bedside or a daughter in Monroe, who was se riously ill, was sent for and arrived home a week ago yesterday. Mr. K'Lapp wishes The Gazette to say that he deeply appreciates the many acta of kindness shown him during his illness. Though a new comer and a comparative stranger here, he says he never received better treatment at the hands of the people anywnere and he wants them to know that ne greatly appreciates this fact.
