To the Democratic Voters of Gaston County: Gentlemen: As life-long Demo crats and voters in Gaston county, we ask that you read this letter with more than passing notice. For the first time in the history of the county, we offer a candidate for -the nomination to the office of Reg ister of Deeds; nor have we ever had a candidate for any county office, be fore this time, from this point. As you well know, the Hon. Carl Finger, of River Bend township, Is a candidate, without opposition, for the nomination to succeed himself as county 'Treasurer. There are also two candidatea now offered from the same township for the nomination for Register of Deeds, nsmely, Messrs. O. B. Carpenter and W. O. Gardner. River Bend townahlp also furnished, in the person of Hon.,M. A. Carpenter, the Register of Deeds just preceding the present Register, Hon. A. J. Smith. While we have nothing whatever to say against either Mr. Carpenter .Or Mr. Gardner as regards their qual ifications and fitness for this office, . yet we do wish to make known our belief th,at the candidate offered, by Bessemer City and Crowders Moun tain township, Mr. C. E. Whitney, cannot be excelled by any one in the' county in respect to his fitness for and ability to successfully fill the Important office of 'Register of Deeds. Mr. Whitney has not been an of fice seeker heretofore, and has al ways supported loyally and faithfully, the Interests of good government and the Democratic party. Mr. Whitney has borne his full share of the commercial reverses 1 which seem to have sought out this community for the past 'few years, but always he has worked with re newed energy and seal to rebuild and -make permanent our Industries and commercial developments. In consideration of these facta we submit to you that a fair and equit able division of the county offices over the county, wttl entitle the can- ; didate from Crowders Mountain township to the nomination for Reg ister of Deeds; and we earnestly, sincerely and respectfully aak the v voters of the county to support Mr. . C. E. Whitney for the nomination at the primary to be held next Satur day afternoon. Very Respectfully, . , Z. T. Payne. M. I Rhyne, D. P. ; Froneberger, E. A. Tucker, H. C. Froneberger, J. L.
