Last Thursday's issue of The Car olina Mountaineer, which is publish ed at Waynesville, has the following to say in an account of the D. O. K. K. ceremonial held there last Wed nesday: "The Gastonia Pythian Drum Corps arrived, 20 strong on the 10 o'clock train Wednesday and paraded afterward in their brilliant uniforms. The D. O. K. K.'s had about all gotten here on the after noon train. At 6 o'clock the Dokies, headed by the Drum Corps and the degree team with their ultra-multicolored uniforms paraded to the Haywood White Sulphur Springs ho tel where they enjoyed their annual banquet. Afterwards they made a night of it at Armory Hall when a bout 60 victims furnished fresh meat foF the Tiger. Many of the would be Dokies were marched up ana down the street tied with ropes and guarded. Occasionally they tried to break away and were caught. They furbished much amusement for tne crowd. Our tall Chief of Police headed the column and carried a broom." Lydia C. Barnes of Lockport, Ill age 102, is still active in household affairs. THE STARVING ARMENIANS. The latest cablegram from Con stantinople, received by the Ameri can Committee for Armenian and Syrian Relief, declares that many Armenian exiles are reduced to eat ing grass and are dying of starva tion, by the hundred. Think of hu man beings reduced to such destitu tion that they are forced to eat grass! Surely out of our great abundance we can find some little gift to help to meet this appalling need. Money or checks sent to me or left with The Gatette will go di rectly to these starving ones. REV. J. C. GALLOWAY, Pastor ot the A. P Church. PROVIDENCE CAMP NO.
