Several Gastonla employers expe rienced some difficulty in securing negro workmen yesterday morning. This condition was brought about by the offers of a concern in Baltimore, Md which carried with It provisions for transportation to that city , and 12 per day for work done in a pnos- nbate establishment. On Sunday morning 46 negro laborers left tn city in search of work in response to this offer which appeared to them to be very attractive. Community dub Meeting. C, did, during the recent flood along the Catawba River and its trib utaries, lose by the flood, cotton" ag gregating about 1700 bales, and WHEREAS,, these Companies are the only corporations or manufac turing plants, so far as they can learn, that did -lose cotton by the flood, and these Companies, there fore, believe that they are the own ers of all the unmarked and uniden tified cotton along said river, as wall as that which is capable of being Identified as cotton belonging, to them; ; THEREFORE, the Companies k bove named, desiring to recover their lost cotton, do hereby authorize and empower H. L. SANDERS, of Char lotte, N. C, for them, and on their account, to recover and take posses sion of all cotton bearing any marks identifying it as the cotton of said Companies, or any one of them; and do also authorize and empower the said Sanders, for them, and on their account, to take possession of all cotton which is incapable of being identified, and which floated, down the Catawba River during the flood; and for this purpose they authorize and empower the said Sanders to pay to any person who may have pos session of said cotton. - reasonable sums to reimburse all such presons for their trouble and expense in re covering the cotton from the' river, and in holding tbe same, and to pay reasonable charges and expenses' for delivering said cotton for transpor tation to Charlotte, N.
