Elsewhere in today's issue is record- ed the details of an accident that happened yesterday at a railroad crossing; In the very center of Gas tonia. As a result a young man now lies. In the hospital perhaps fatally Injured. The dead carcass of a horse and a demolished delivery wagon tell how near tbe life of the. young man came to being wiped out. No attempt need be made to place the blame. The accident has occur- ed and the young man's life has all bat been taken. To relieve the haz ard of the street crossings a watch man is needed! Hundreds of school children cross the tracks at the very spot where yesterday's accident oc- enred. That none of their lives have been snuffed out at these dangerous crossings is due only to the ever . watchful hand of Providence. Be fore many days have passed the life of some innocent tot may also- be wept out and its tiny voice lost in the roar of the moving train. Is it necessary to wait until a life has been wasted before some action is taken? With the city's growth watchmen at the main crossings are absolutely needful. (Of course no such claim could have been made un der Republican rule.) Candidate Linney therefore, set about to juggle the figures in order to confuse tbe facts and make tbem less understandable to the average voter. So he added tbe average per capita cost of the county govern ments in this State, of 2.99. to tbe per capita State cost of 1.46 and shouted to his audience that the fig ures of the Democrats weren't half right, that the real figures should be 4.45 instead of 1.46.
