H. f As a result of a shooting here Sat urday night at S o'clock occasioned by an attempted arrest by Officers Brigbam and Noles of some negroes who were gambling, Sam Fisher, col ored, lies at the point of death with two bullet wounds, one through bis skull and one through his stomacn and Policeman Notes is shot through the fleshy part of the thlgn. When the two officers attempted to arrest the negroes they resisted and were putting up a nasty scrap, having Brigham down on the grouna, when he drew his gun and . snot Fisher In self-defense. , Noles, wno was on special Saturday night duty, was shot by one of the negroes. It Is not thought that Fisher will live through the night. w ' - In an accident Saturday morntng at the Southern Railway trestle over the Catawba river, C. E. Moser, or Greensboro, bridge foreman, had his left leg crushed completely off Just above the ankle and was otherwise injured about the body and hips when the boom on the derrick struck a telephone pole knocking it on tae -man..
