Surprise Wedding of Gaston' Newly Elected Representative and Popu lar Young lady of Wudesloro )Vas Celebrated Last Friday Evening at Bride's Home Mr. and Mr. Puett nt Home In Dallas Thanksgiving Treat to County Home Inmates. Correspondence of The Gazette. DALIAS, Dec. 7. Great was tne surprise of every one in town last Saturday morning when the news was received of the marriage of Mr. John Puett and Misa S. Y. Coppedge, which took place at the home of tne bride's parents in Wadesboro last Friday evening at half past, seven o'clock. ' Miss Coppedge, the popular teacn er of the fourth and fifth grades tn the Dallas graded school, left Wed nesday afternoon for Wadesboro, pre sumably to spend the Thanksgiving holidays with her family. Friday morninz Mr. Puett. accompanied by tev. Drury L. Jones, left to spend the day in Charlotte, but as it was proved later their destination was Wadesboro and not harlotte. The marriage ceremony was performed by Rev. A. W. Plyler, assisted by Rev. James W. Kilgo, an uncle of the bride. The only attendants were Miss Annie Coppedge, maid of honor. Rev. D. L. Jones, best man, and lit tle Annie Erlich, ring bearer. Mr. and Mrs. Puett returned to Dallas Saturday morning and the;r hosts of friends gave them a warm welcome and hearty congratulations. Thanksgiving services were held Thursday morning in the Presbyte rian church by uev. D. L. Jones, and also in Holy Communion Lutheran church by Rev. A. R. Beck. After dinner the school children assembled at the graded scnool build ing and with Prof. G. G. L. Sawyer and a number of the teachers went to the county home to carry their gifts to the inmates. This custom has be come such an institution In Dallas, that the children associate Thanks giving Day and the county home to gether, and look forward with pleas ure to the visit for weeks before. It is needless, perhaps, to say that their old friends at the home also look for ward w ith pleasure to their visit, and the sweet songs they always sing for tbem after the distribution of the gifts. Prof. J. B. Henson. Prof. S. J. Kir by and Misses Marion Thompson and Elva Hall attended the Teacher's As sembly in Raleigh last week. Prof. I Henson was elected president or the high school section. The faculty ana students of the Dallas schools appre ciate this honor accorded their super intendent. Friday evening at half past seven o'clock there will be a community progress meeting In the graded school auditorium. An interesting pro gram has been arranged and the speakers are all "live wires," calcu lated to Inspire the andlence with en thusiasm. A very large audience is expected. Refreshments will be serv ed by Miss Thompson and some or the young ladies In the farm His schooL . . The play given a week ago by sev eral members of the high school fac ulty and citizens f the town was a great success. The actors and ac- . . tresses did their parts so well that the large audience was charmed witn the performance. The sum of $i." was realized for the benefit of the farm life school. It is a source of great pleasure to every one in Dallas regardless of de nomination, that Rev. and Mrs. W. A. Jenkins will remain in our town When it was learned that Mr. .lenkinp was to be sent to Stanley a petition was circulated asking that he might be allowed to remain here where he and Mrs. lenkins are greatly belov ed. In every movement for the good of the town Mr. Jenkins takes a leading part, and every one felt that he could not be spared from this community.
