Because there has been some mis understanding as to the real pur pose of the community Christmas tree being planned by the Music Club and the Chamber of Commerce, Mrs. J. M. Holland has given The Gazette the following facts relative to the celebration: "The municipal Christmas tree which is to be given under the direc tion of the Music Club and the Cham ber of Commerce will be held Sunday evening. December! 24, immediately after the close of service in the difr ferent churches. "The idea is to bring together all the people of Gastonia and Gaston county and any others who may wish to come to Join together m singing Christmas hymns, and to promote the true Christina spirit or Peace on Karth, Good Will Towards Men." which in the busy rush of life is so often forgot. "Rev. 11. H. Jordan, pastor of Main Street Methodist church, will make a short talk, after which the following hymns will be sung: O! I itfle Town of Bethlehem. Hoiy Night. Silent Night. Oh! In or der to take care of the increased travel incident to the Christmas hol iday season and also to provide ade quate facilities for handling the large volume of mail and express. the Southern Railway has arranged to operate trains .17 and 38 in two sections between Washington and Atlanta, December I'.th to 2"th in clusive, and trains and 36 in two sections between Washington and Atlanta December 17th to 24th in clusive. The first sections of these trains will carry passengers exclus ively and will be operated on the reg ular schedules now In effect, the sec ond section to follow 15 minutes la ter with the baggage and mail. Ex tra equipment will be provided on these trains and arrangements also have been made to handle addition al equipment in trains 29 and 30 be tween Atlanta and Washington, trains 42 and 43 between Atlanta and Charlotte, trains 23 and 24 be tween Atlanta and Jacksonville, and : on other trams additional sleeping cars and coaches will M added as the j travel' may demand. WtiHt is believed to ie a record price for A bale of cotton and seed for Gaston county, was received here Monday by Grunt Stewart a negro living on the Hall place south of town when the sum of $181.49 was handed him for cotton and seed.
