Alerady much .talking and planning had been done and the large crowd was unanimous that they organize at once, and lose no time in preparing for the coming community fair. The following offi cer and chairmen of committees ' were selected: Mr. Sam Hovls, pres ident; Mrs. I G. Ramsey, vice-president; Mr. D. A. Stroup. secretary and treasurer; Mr. F. S. Hager, assistant secretary and treasurer; Mr. Adam P. Deck, livestock; Mr. D. A. Kiser, ; field crops; Mrs. D. A. Stroup, fancy ' work; Miss Blanche Morrow, can-' ning; Miss Ferra Kiser, cooking and home industries. Mrs. M. P. Shetley had -charge of the meeting. Short talks were made by Messrs. J. M. Gray and J. STANLEY, April SO. The com mencement exercises of the Stanley high school began Sunday evening with the annual sermon by Rev. A. L. Bollck, pastor of the Stanley Lutheran church. Tonight at 8 o'clock the program will consist of exercises by the in termediate grades, including an op eretta, "Little Folks' Town." a play, "Little Red Riding Hood" and an In dian Huntress Drill. , Tomorrow morning at 10:30 o'clock the annual literary address will be delivered by Rev. D. H. Rol ston. pastor of the First Presbyterian church of Charlotte. Mrs. Jennie Huss, wife of Sylvanus R. Huss, died at her home near Mon roe on last Wednesday and was bur ied here Thursday. Deceased bad been in declining health for several years, but was In bed only about two weeks prior to her death, which was caused by perforation -of the bowels. The Huss family had lived in Cher ryville lor quite a number or years, but about three years ago disposed of their property here and moved to Union county. Mrs. Huss was member of the Methodist church and gave assurance before her death of her hope and resignation to the will of the Divine. She is survived by her husband, Mr. S. R. Huss, and the following children: Mr. Chess and Miss Mattle Huss, of Union county; Mr. Brlce Huss, of Gastonla, and Mrs. Andrew Smith, of Virginia. The funeral services here were conduct ed by Rev. O. C. Fortenberry, pastor of the Methodist church of this place Attorney M. a. btroup win soon begin building a house for his own use in tne western part or town on the Shelby road. Postmaster A. H. Huss is remodel ing his home and adding some rooms up stairs which will add much to its convenience and appearance. Mr. M. L. Rudisill attended the Lutheran conference at Claremont last week as a delegate from the lo cal Lutheran church here The second quarterly conference of the Cherryville Methodist charge will be held with St. Paul's church, three miles north of Waco, on May 5th and 6th. A little more than or dinary interest will be attached to this conference as it will be the first appearance of Rev. John F. Kirk as presiding elder. Mr. Carl Mauney, of Henry River, spent the week-end here attending the commencement exercises of the local schools Mr. S. C. Hendricks, bookkeeper for the Hendricks-Harrelson Co.. has been off duty for the past week suf fering with his eyes. An eye special ist was consulted and he was told that he was sunering from a very severe eye strain which came from over work. . Rev. D. F. Putnam, pastor of the Baptist church, is engaged in a se ries of meetings at Bessemer City this week. Kev. o. L. Fortenberry, pastor or the Methodist churpti, announces that he will be assisted in a series of revival meetings here, some time in May, by Rev. C. R. A meeting of the people of the community in and 'around Pisgah has been called for next Thursday night at 8 o'clock for the purpose of or ganizing a community fair. As it is expected the crowd will be so large that the school house will not ac commodate all who will attend. Rev. A. T. Lindsay has kindly tendered the use of the auditorium at Linwood College and the meeting will be held there. There has been much Inter est manifested In this community In a fair. At this meeting officers will be elected. Short talks will be mads by Messrs. J. M. Gray and J. M. Holland. For forty-five minutes prior to the organization an old-time singing will be held. Mr. Charles Pearson, who is such a successful leader, will hars charge ol the singing. That the sing ing will be a big success under his leadership goes without saying and it will be worth going miles to hear the singing. There Is a piano in the au ditorium, and a large number of American tune books will be provid ed.
