' GASTONIA, LODGE NO. 800 - CHALiBER OF COrillilERCli DEPARTTilENT By MISS LILLIAN FOR LADIES OXLY. A Chatty Talk With the Feminine Portion of Gastonla's Population by the Nw Secretary. Next Tuesday we expect to be In our new offices. After that I hope all you people who are reading this will come in every day or two to see whether or not we are running your Chamber of Commerce to suit yon. In the meantime, however, I want to have a little personal, around-the-fire talk with you. Of course we all know that our Chamber of Commerce Is being and will be watched Just a little closer than any Chamber of Commerce, in the -South at least till the novelty wears off for the reason that a woman is at the head of it. Not that there is any thing so miraculous about that, but just for the reason that the South is just now beginning to realize, acknowledge and allow her women to publicly demonstrate their efficiency othewise than in the home. For this reason I want to ask es pecially the co-operation of the women of Gastonia in making the Gastonia Chamber of Commerce the best Chamber of Commerce in the South.' So far as the men of our city are concerned, they have shown their faith in this organization in no uncer tain measure by the amount of money they have so splendidly donated dur ing the past few days to the furnish ing and equipment of the new build ing, and our membership (that give of their Incomes or salaries the first of every month) are among the rep-j resentative men of the city, and would not consider for a thin minute suporting (much less giving freely of their time) an Institution that was not for the best good of the community in which we live. Hence, as I see it, it s up to. us to make good now. All over the State the women or Gastonia have the reputation of knowing how to do things splendidly and of doing things in just that way. In co-operating with your Chamber of Commerce you now have the opportunity of showing the State (the world in fact) another thing or two, for you know the easiest thing in the world to get is publicity if you've done either the unusual or worthy thing.v The real reason for the wonderful publicity given the Greater Gaston County Association is not because of the phenomenal amount of work it has done, but because it is the only thing of it's kind in the world so rar as we know or can learn. Mr. F. P. Hall, president of this association, came in the other day and appointed me secretary of the G. G. C. A., I propose to give of the best SPRING COLDS ARE DANGEROUS. Sudden changes of temperature and underwear bring spring colds with stuffed up head, sore throat and general cold symptoms. A dose of Dr. King's New Discovery is sure relief, this happy combination of an tiseptic balsams clears the head, soothes the irritated membranes and what might have been a lingering cold is broken up. Don't stop treat ment when relief is first felt as a half cured cold Is dangerous. Take .Dr. King's New Discovery till your cold is gone. 1 GAS RANGE WEEK This week of May 8th to May 12th Inclusive is to be known as Gas Range week In Gastonia. Gaston , Gas FERGUSON, Secretary that Is In me to the development or Gaston county, and we know that anything the Gastonia Chamber of Commerce can do toward the coun ty's development will eventaully re vert to Gastonia, because Gastonia is the logical center of affairs for It's home county. In our new building we are toiave a rest room that will be fitted up ror our county friends. How many Gastonia ladies will take this aa their Invitation to call me over the phone (130) or come to the office within the next three days and offer to help us finish this rest room? Of course now, this doesn t mean tnat tne rest room is dependent on donations: it isn't. It is assured already. The finance committee stand ready at any minute to furnish it completely. But I want the ladies to do it if they will. Not only will we appreciate it more. but I have an idea that the ladies and children throughout the county would rather think that we did it. I shall wait with a good deal of interest to hear that telephone bell begin ringing on the morning of the 9th.
