Almost every day new one is reported. Gastonla's rec ord in the textile manufacturing bus iness is such as to guarantee that such a plant could be operated suc cessfully here, ' ' Gastonia came, to the scratch on the sale of Liberty Bonds. To Gas- ' ton county 'was , allotted $500,000 worth of. which amount Gastonia was expected to take about one-half. From the news columns of today's Gazette It will be seen that Gas- tonians have taken $237,500 worth -s of these bonds. Just what the oth- er towns in the county have done on this line we are not advised but we take It that they hare taken some . part in this patriotic work. . . MUSIC CLUB 30-MEET WITH MRS. J. A. New Route to Blowing Rock Via ; ; MOUNT HOLLY. Charlotte Observer, 1 5 th. v Antomobllists will be greatly in terested in the new route to Blowing Rock -by way of Mount Holly, from thence to Stanley and then to Lin colnton. This road hasJust been ' completed and Is in excellent condi tion, reports J. B. Ivey, who has Just been over it. - It is macadamized all the way through Gaston county with the ex ceptlon 'of a small stretch. The roads in Lincoln county are in even better condition. The old roads are not al lowed to wear out,' but are constant ly being worked jipon, Mr. .Ivey stated, t This route will greatly shorten both the distance and the - time of the trip. PICTURE MEN PATRIOTIC. Grotts Itereipts of One Day Each Month Will Be Donated to Ameri can Red Cross. Wilmington, June 14. The North Carolina Motion Picture Exhibitors League, is session at - Wrigbtsvllle Beach, today adopted a resolution to set aside the gross receipts or one day each month,, during the entire duration of. the war, to be donated to the National Red Cross Society for its war relief work. This will mean a donation of receipts from approxi mately 150 theaters in the State one day in each month, and waslntroduc ed' "as a measure of appreciation for the action of the Senate finance com mittee" in exempting from war taxa tions the popular priced theaters While Individual theaters have made such donations before,"" the North .Carolina league is - the first State organization to make such a contri bution to the 'Red Cross cause. CLAIMS EXEMPTION ON "MORAL UNFITNESS." (By International News Service.) MILWAUKEE, June 16. One of the "jokers" In the Conscription bill was that exemption -might be clalm- ed on the grounds of being morally deficient, but out of the millions reg istered the only man to register this claim was a Socialist of this city. The man is Frank Raguse. former State Senator, who was expelled from the -Legislature because of unpatri otic remarks. He wrote on his card "morally onfit." MEXICO MAY ENTER THE WORLD WAR. Albert Ball, one of the youngest and most successful of British filers, in letteri received by his father, former Mayor of Notting ham, just before the aviator's death told how he went up to fight in the air with nothing but his pajamas on. "On a few occasions," he wrote, "I haven't had time to put my clothes on, and I've gone up in my pajamas. Cost plus 10 per cent will probably be the final basis of settlement for steel to be used in the. merchant fleet. The controversy between General Goe thals and the shipping board, in which Chairman Den man refused to sign any contracts for $95 a ton steel, has led to the statement that Congress will be compelled to give me president run power to act arDi- trarily if he deems such action nec essary. The fury of the British drive has made it impossible to continue their pubil cation and scarcity of numbers Issu ed has resulted in as high as 300 marks ($60) being offered for a Bin glo copy. Printers throughout the empire are working on counterfeit repro ductions, many of which are so near the originals that it is impossible to tell them apart.
