One of the Most pleasant social event of the past week iu enjoyed Wednesday, when Mrs. A. C Lineberger entertained the Mite Society of he Lutheran church of Mt Holly at an old fashioned quilting party A four-course dinner was served. The uilt made will le donated to the Luther aa orphanage. The invited guests, other than the members, were Mrs. Karl Kel ler and Mrs. A. Frederick. Mrs. V. 1'. Hall served a luncheon in fcoaor of the executive committee of the Kings Mountain Presbyterial Wednes day. A program was planned for the meeting of the l'resbyterial to In- held mt Gastonia in April. Guests enjoying Mrs. Hall's hospitality were Mesdames D. E. MeConnell. I). K. LaFar and S. A. Robinson, of Gastonia ; Miss Ruby Cost mer, of Dallas; Mrs. J. B. Hall and Miss Kthel Stowe, of Belmont, and Mrs. Wise, f Lincolnton. Mrs. J. B. McCoy and Mrs. W. W. Watt, of Charlotte, spent the week-end iu town as guests of Mrs. .1. M. I'ressly. Mrs. J. T. IVndy an.l daughter. Kliza beth, have returned from Kichburg, S. C, where they visited Mrs. IVndy's mother, Mrs. J. L. Drennon. Miss Bertha Davis has arrived from Doubs, M1., to take charge of the mil liaery department of W. 11. & 1. 1. Btowe. In a fast and exciting basketball game played on the Charlotte Y. M. ('. A. gym floor the local high school quint defeated the strong Asheville team by the scon' of 51 to 17. This game put Asheville out of the championship race and left Relniont to play Winston -Salem for the Western State championship. The winner iu this contest will play Wilmington, the East el i champions, for the State champion ship. The team, accompanied by Supt. Bisk and a few students, left this morn ing for Chapel Hill, where the games will In- played. Funeral services for Mrs. J. F. Me R who died at the Presbyterian Hos I i al, Charlotte, Wednesday night, were 1. Id at her home here Friday morning , d burial took place at the Belmont netery.
