Fall Fishing in Coastal Waters Gets Off To Excellent Start as October Arrives ■'> i ' ' ! ■■ • ' . ' *• Fall fishing in the coastal waters •of Southeastern North Carolina has .gotten off to an excellent start with ^phenomenal catches of channel bass, king macherel, large size blue fish and Spanish mackerel, and fgrey trout. With calm cooler weath er now prevailing, thousands of fishermen from all over North Car olina and many other states are trying their luck with excellent re sults from the surf, the many ocean side fishing piers, and the scores of charter boats for offshore fish ing. During the past week, charter boats at Sneads Ferry, Wrightsville, Carolina Beach, Southport, Lock wood Folly and Shallotte inlets, with fishing parties making ex cellent catches daily of blue fish, large Spanish and king mackerel. A number of sailfish are being hooked and landed by boats from Southport, fishing Frying Pan Shoals, and off Wrightsville Beach. Hunderds of pier fishermen at Surf City, New Topsail Beach, Wrightsville, Carolina, Kure and Fort Fisher beaches are making ex cellent catches of blues, trout, pup py drum, spots, pompano, and flounder. Waltonites in large numbers are dotting the unrestricted beach strands, casting and plugging for channel bass, grey and speckled trout, bluefish, flounder, spots and Virginia mullets. A large number of large channel bass are being hauled in daily by surf casters. Outlaw's Bridge (By Mrs. J. H. Parker) ' Capt. and Mrs. C. E. Meyer and son Charles, who have recently re turned from Japan, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Parker and son Preston of Mount Olive were supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Parker Monday. Mrs. Glennie Outlaw of Ashland, Va,- is visiting relatives here this week. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Outlaw and children spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Lewis, Jr., in Goldsboro. , Mr. and Mrs. Perry Nobles were weekend visitors with Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Johnston in Cheverly, Md. Miss Maggie Stroud of Raleigh visited Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Stroud Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Vance Spence of Kinston visited I. V. Outlaw and family Sunday. Faison News Susan and Robert Clifton attend ed the Southeastern Music club in New Bern Saturday. They are members of the Warsaw Junior Music club. Mrs.' N. K. Oates spent Wednes day and Thursday in Latta, S. C., with Mr. and Mrs. Dan Shine. Mrs. W. W. Gardner of Warsaw has enrolled 29 pupils in a dancing class in Faison school. Mrs. W. R. Clifton and Mrs. M. C. Bowden are taking an extension course in Speech Development and Correction in Goldsboro each Mon day. The Faison Fire Department has offered three prizes to the school room having the best exhibit dur ing Fire Prevention Week. Long Ridge (By Mrs. Pearl Sutton) Marcia Scott of Fayetteville spent the last weekend at her home here. Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Sutton visited Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Jones Sunday at Sarecta. Many small children of this sec tion are missing school because of sore eyes. Wednesday evening prayer serv -ices have been changed to 7 o’ clock. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Hudson and children of Mount Olive spent last weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Carter. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Winders of .Clinton spent last week with Mrs. Amanda Sutton. The conference will convene with a worship service at 11 a.m., followed by lunch served picnic style on the church grounds. The afternoon will be devoted to busi ness. The Rev. Mrs. George Cates presided. The Rev. W. H. Montgomery of Wheat Swamp led the devotional. Mrs. Z. V. Blount, program chairman, showed three educational films purchased for the school. They were oh arithmetic, geography and history. The second-third grade combina tion and the 12th grade won the attendance prizes.
