C Pantherettes who have been “red hot” on the basketball courts re cently. The Panthers won their second fame in a row Tuesday night, after having dropped their first seven, and the Pantherettes also won their second game this season, giving them a record of two wins against seven defeats. This is about the best record the Pantherettes have had in the past three seasons. Tonight and Tuesday the Mount Olive basketball teams will be idle because of exams. The big question remains to be answered. Will the long lay-off hurt the locals’ play ing when they return to the court here next Friday? By losing to B. F. Grady Tuesday night, the Calypso lassies have fal len from first place in the Duplin conference standings. Usually once a team falls from top spot it never recovers. If Calypso misses a championship this year, fans there might find some comfort in that next fall should be brighter, and, of course, the same holds true with Faison. The two schools are to be con solidated by then, if present plans are carried out. Although both schools will h>se a few of their stars, the consolidation should pro duce a team second to none in Duplin County. Of course, it is long-range thinking, but maybe after the schools are consolidated and ad justed to the merger, the Calyps Faison High could put a football team on the field. John Burch, the cage coach at Carver, has been saying spectators don’t turn out to Friday night con £NOW BATTLES — No snow is complete without a snow battle, and typical of this tradition is the above photo showing a group of Mount Olive youngsters engaged in such a battle. The results proved him to be cor rect. Only about half as many peo ple attended the game as they, do on Tuesday nights. But the gym is packed for the Tuesday night con tests, which would indicate the Tigers are receiving sufficient support to back a six-man football team next fall.
