Following the business session,
contract bridge was played. Mrs.

won prizes for the club members.
Bingo was played after dinner and
Mrs. C. G. Cowan was high scorer.
The tables for four were cover
ed with Valentine cloths and cen
tered with red carnations. Favors
of Valentine baskets of candy and
nuts were given each guest.

The LaPlace Home Demonstra
tion club met Wednesday in the
home of Mrs. Albert Turner, Jr.,
with Mrs. Albert Turner, Sr., as as
sistant hostess. Mrs.' HarveyCarter,
president, presided. Mrs. Russell
Whitfield, music leader, gave a
report on the school she attended
in Itaiansville last Tuesday and led
the "roup in singing, “Beautiful
Dreamer.” Mrs. Dora Beaver gave
the devotional.
Mrs. Adrain Davis of Calypso
spoke on planning to conserve food
by canning and freezing. She point
ed out the first steps are produc
ing the best-liked foods, planning
the garden carefully, and spray
er dusting to protect the growing
vegetables from insects.
Mrs. Ruth Rogers assisted Mrs.
Davis by passing out pamphlets
on the required amounts of dif
ferent kinds of vegetables per fam
ily members.
Project leaders reporting were
Mrs. George Kornegay, home dairy,
and Mrs. James Wells, home gar
dens.
The hostesses served refresh
ments consisting of ice cream, can
dies and coffee, carrying out the
Valentine motif.

Meeting Reported
The Goshen Home Demonstra
club met Wednesday afternoon
with Mrs. Granger Sutton.
Mrs. W. B. Boyette, president,
called the meeting, to order. The
members joined in singing, “Dear
Lord and Father of Mankind, r
Mrs. Sutton gave a demonstra
tion on “pie making.” A supper
was planned to raise funds. It will
be held Saturday at 6:30 at Mrs.
Shelton Daughtry’s. Each member
is- to be present and bring her fam
ily.

en of America,” the club adjourn
ed to meet in March with Mrs. Iris
Parker.

day morning as an expression of

Workers’ school will be held at
St. Paul’s church, Goldsboro, Feb
ruary 26-March 1, at 7:30 p.m.
Courses offered will be “Guiding
Children in Christian Growth,”
“Teaching Children,” “Preparing
for Marriage" (for seniors and old
er youth), “Personal Christian Liv
ing,” and ‘Teachings of the Pro
phets.” You may enroll at the

Club Meeting Held
With Mrs. Davis
The Twentieth Century club met
Wednesday afternoon in the home
of Mrs. S. M. Davis with Mrs. Ed
ward Carroll, Mrs. E. J. Pope, and
Mrs. Paul Maness co-hostesses.
The Valentine motif was used
in .decorations and refreshments.
Green and .lavender, symbolic of
the club’s colors, were featured
in the dining room, where coffee
and an ice course were-served by
Mrs. Pope, club president, and
Mrs. Faison Thomson of Golds
boro.
Following the social, Mrs. Leslie
Ipock gave the 'devotional. A pa
per was written and presented by
Mrs. D. L. Fouts on “Famous Per
sonality: Sarah Delano Roosevelt.”
Mrs. W. E. Lewis and Mrs. Frank
Oliver assisted with the program,
introducing the speaker and con
ducting a book exchange.
Two new members, Mrs. Nelson
Ricks and Mrs. James Davis, were
welcomed into the club.
