Mr. Carl Morris has a small
game hen that is now caring
for her fourth brood of chickens
for this year, and they are now
as large as partridges. Her oth
er broods were 14 and 14 aUd 12,
all'of which she reared; the last
brood numbered 12, but she has
lost 6 of this family and now
has only 7, but 47 biddies are
an unusual number of children
for a mother to bring up in a
year, and ’fhere is no giiessingat

that would make this articlf^too

The exercises wene opened by
singing “America” in which all

Recess for dinner was next
announced; and a table in the
senool building was prepared for
the Confederate veterans and
the speakers of the day, and a
most bountiful spread it was. It
is beyond us to described, but
after Mr. Goodman had offered
thanks and Adjutant Guin had
given the order to “charge” ev
ery man in our battallion went
“over the top. ”
At 3 in the afternoon. Dr. H
(j. Alexander, president of the
State Farmers’ Union, made
splendid speech. He urged the
farmers, the producers of ninety
per cent, of ihe wealth of pur
land) to organize for their own
protection, that in this day of
greed and graft the manipulators
of wealth are throttling every
thing in sight. Dr. Alexander
gave us a lot things to think

The best of order prevailed
throughout the day; there was

Mr and Mrs. J. W. McLauch

Mr. Bruce Morris recently
spent ten days in the Fairmont
section of Robeson county, and
he says the farmers down there
are in a most prosperous condi
tion; they produced good crops
of tobacco ^and‘ received very
high prices for it, and they also
have fine cotton crops. *
Mrs. Mary Roberts had a let

Roberts, who is with the Ameri
can engineers’ corps in France,
and is getting along all right.
Mr. Roberts is a Shnner, and is
