Carolina Cotton School Clayton Hotel Bldg. Charlotte, N, C. THE REASON WHY. The editor of The Journal has known for yeais that the teach ing of organic euolution is and has been attacking and destroy ing ihe integrity of theBible and consenuently undermining the Christian religion, and that the object of the teaching of hy- putheses linking man with the lower orber of life has been, and still is inspired of the devil. That man Scopes, who was indicted and convicted in Day ton, Tenn , recently for violating a law’ against teaching organic evolution in that State is now petitioning the courts to enjoin the officials of that State to pre vent the enforcement of the law, says in his petition; “Your petitioner further al. leges that the theory of evolu. tion denies and is in conflict with the story of •divine creation of man as taught in the Bible, and your petitioner further alleges that it is not part of his duty asj instructor in science, to concern himself with anything except the conscientious and accurate imparting to his pupils of such knowledge as has been achieved by mankind in the vaiious fields North Carplitia, Hoke County. - In the Bnperior Court. The objective of these great schol ars, as they represent themselves to be, is to, remove a barrier: ‘‘The carnal mind is enmity against God,” so they would destroy faith in the revealed Word. Not so much to advance knowledge as the satisfaction of winning a world-old struggle— the Devil against God. The only advancement the hu man race has made in all history has tK;en made while they have foMowed the teachings of the in spired Word, and it has been the strongest desire of man to follow’ the inclinations of his own will, which has i>een to evil, and evil continually This is no new thing. There are those who say that organic evolution is not a fit sub ject for legislation, while it i.s a fact that this teaching is moth ering agnosticism, skepticism atheism, which in turn, breeds crifiiinaiity, all fdrnis of di^re spect for law’ and order, and will result in anarchy, and result fi nally in the destruction of civili- zation.
