If Hoke had a number of can ning clubs, fewer vegetables would po to decay. One reason a man should nev er take a drink at all is because he can’t tell for his Iffe wheit he is drunk. If everybody did their full share, and were cheerful about it, not so many irksome tasks would rest on just a few. If good crops and high prices will be assured, farmers can pay high taxes. These folks are game while they have the cash. Girls’ clubs are a good idea to awaken interest in this thing of making a living, and in diverting attention from the swimming pool. A few years ago, a paved road was built between Greensboro and High Point. It is inade quate now, and a new, wider and straighter road is to be built. A Card of Thanks. Our oeighbotis were as kind, sympathetic and helpful with us as people could be during our re cent bereavement, the death of our brother, for which we are very thankful to them G. F. WATSON and FAMILY. AdmioUtrator’s Notice. All persons indebted to said eb- cate will please settle at once. This July 11 1926. G. H. ALLRAN, Administrator of Ben McRae, dec’d. Fayetteville, N. C- A. M. Moore, Atty. There is talk of an extra les* eion of the legislature to do something for the State Sanato rium for the treatment of tuber culosis, because patients* in the advanced stages of the disease are-being sent away, and that there is a long waiting list i-f pa* ients desiring admission But we can’t see what an ext«a scs sion of the legislature can do, if it is a question of more funds for the institution. The regular session appropriated fully as much as the people are able to pay, if you ass tKem. Have your shoes repaired at Jordan’s Electric Shoe Bhop The number of accidents on the highways is alarming, due largely to speeding. Better come up a little'late than dead- Take a little more time to get there, boys. Boys’ clubs center thought on farm work. Attending animals is fine amusement and profitable business also, and then a boy learns to make a living, which knowledge sports never bring. We do not see why any life could be more attractive than that which makes girls and boys healthful, strong and intelligent and useful, and no place equals the farm for the right environ ment. Nothing but hardsurface roads are worth anything in the tide water, and in the clayey part of the State. How the money to build so much is to be had we do not see, but that is what is needed. Drinking is a bad and inexcu sable fault, anyhow, for any body will enjoy life as well sober as drunk, and this way of drink ing and driving makes it very dangerous for drunk drivers and everybody a drunk driver meets. We like fun. Nothing like it. But the fun will not continue un less we have the necessaries of life, and every one should con tribute their share to the sum total needed and after that, let make a contribution to the fun sum. Now just fun only. That can’t be. We would be glad to see some general reforms in both state anc county governments, but our ideas and those of most people who have given expression, are not in agreement at all. Our idea is to have fewer offiers and still pay them less. GovernorMcLean’s idea, if we catch his drift, is to have a head to the county gov emments, a county manager instead of management by board of county commissioners as at present. If we are not mistaken, the plan calls for a board of coun ty commissioners plus a county manager. Is it necessary to have both? And a county manager would cost a great, deal more than a board of commissioners, fl.nd we would rather trust the judgment of five men than that of pne, partictularly when it costs about one tenth as mu ch. • Automobiles and Stores North Carolina, Hoke Ooonty.
