There’re now ‘25 orphanages in North Carolina, and they are all in need of more funds, and those who can should remembi r them Thanksgiviug. w hich comes two weeks from today. We do not see how the powers that be manage to get out of pav ing widows of Confederate vet erans as much as they give male fourth class pensioners but they are giying them less. The State c^ylleges and chai i table irfsfilutions and the several departmenfs are asking for four millions increase for expenses. They are spending only eleven million dollars a year m w, about ten times the amount spent for the same purposes twenty years ago. The State Supreme court, has decided that special game* jaws for counties are unconstiruMonal and that the wdld game belongs to the State and not the land owner. If that is good logic and law, why does not the game be long to the United States, the continent, the Western Hemis phere, the globe, and no legisla live body has a right to regulate shooting? Al Smith has been elected gov ernor of New York for the fourth term, and will be a candid;ite for the Democratic Presidential nomination.
