There are a few deer over there, and we hear fox hunters slip one over now and then. It is a known fact, that manv men have never achieved fame for the lack of selfcontrol. Plenty of men may have had the force to have licked either Dempsey orTunnev but didn’t for the reason they couldn’t control themselves The farmers who have a few acres of strawberries are a lot better oft. or will be soon, than those who will have to wait un til next September before they have anything to sell for money. A few strawberries, dewber ries, then melons and cautelopes, with chickens and eggs sold all along through the year, make a farmer independent of the boll 'weevil situation. Fayetteville Presbytery met in adjourned session in Rkeford Presbyterian church Tuesday morning at 11 o’clock, and it met for the purpose of tasking and prayer. Its members did not ask for nor expect entertainment by the church. Four hours of the day were devoted to the offering up of petitions to God, and in talks on prayer. In was a very solemn occasion. The Church seems to be wak ing up to a situation the writer believs he saw ten years ago, and got dubbed a crank for his pains, and preachers, elders and everybody now sees that people are losing interest in Church work. Contributions are falling off. The cause of the Kingdom of God is being neglected. We attribute this to the teach ing of a new world religion in the text books of our day, books that disparrage, even annul the teaching of the Bible, the only Book on the earth that is a safe guide for everybody, that leads everybody right and nobody at all wrong. But it teaches man’s responsibility to his Creator, his accountability to a Higher Being and this is humiliating,so it is re jected. Man is a proud creature We fear the situation will grow worse, for nothing has been done to remedy conditions. The State should not teach religion at all, if Church and State are to be forever kept separate. The State is infringing upon the domain of the Church w'hen it teaches a mode of creation, for in this binges all the fundamentals of the Christian religion,[producing agnostics and atheists, destroy ing morality and undermining civilization. It is ruinous. wise mun fd¥eBees evil and tries to avoid it, bur tbe foblish rlish along hr-edlessiy and suffer.
