afar when you take a man from work at which he was supporting himself and several others per haps, and give him an office, and an office the State would do as well without, that man becomes a liability, where he was an as set before. And that is t'je so lucion of the high tax question, that is puzzling the wise states men of our day. Too many peov pie on the pay rolls. And these State tax collectors are paid a lot of money merely to go around and see if the taxes due the State have been paid. The law requires clerks of the court and sheriffs to collect these taxes which they prompt ly do, and send it in, and the travelling tax collectors merely see that it has been done. Here is a useless expense of several thousand dollars annually. Hoke Saperior Court. The grand jury was in session two days. They investigated the county buildings, inspected the offices, and did their duty for the term, and were discharged for the term Tuesday. The report of the jury appears elsewhere in this paper. The case against Deputy Sher^ iff Andrews was tried and set tied, and the other cases on the docket were tried. Anyhow court adjourned for the term Thursday, doing little with the civil docket. On account of the meeting in progress in the Methodist church the meeting of the Men of the Church was postponed from last Friday night until tomorrow, Friday night of this week, and the invitation to all the men of the church to attend holds good. Reward! Reward! I hereby offer a reward of Ten Dollars for the name of the per son or persons who demolished the fencing around my lot here, and for sufficient information to establish proof in court of bis or their conviction for the tres pass upon the same.
