Mrs. Arab Stuart; Mrs. Sallie John son, Mis^ McKenzie, Fletdier, Cox and Kimbrdtigh were hostesses at the Gatlin home; bridge and' rook being played at several tables. Mrs. Joe Dowd won the bridge prize and Miss Leone Currfe rOok. Green and white was the color motif used in flowers, teiliea and refreshments. Miss Mc- Laurin and Miss Lorenna Falls, brides-elect, were given pieces of sil ver, and china in their selected pat terns. Miss McXiaurin was also presented with a shower of gifts from those ' present. She was enthusiastic in her appreciation of this delightflil cour tesy. ITHOmST CBtCLES TO Ml^. The Circles of the Society of Chris tian Service of the Methodist church will meet Monday afternoon at 3:30 as follows: Circle No. 2, Mrs. Alfred Cole, chairman, with Miss Irene Downer. Circle No. 3, Mrs. Mitdiell Ep stein, chairman, with Mrs. Benton Thomas. fiyptain and Mrs. Eric-Dugan, of Fort Bi^, Who were among the firm offiMrS'to come to Raeford to live, have been ordered to Fort Beau regard in Alabama. Captain and Mrs. Bob Palmer, who moved from Raeford to Fort Bdvoir in February, have also been trans ferred to B^uregard. The Dugans are leaving today. Lt and Bfcs. Hedges, who have had an apartment with Mrs. W. B. McLauchlin, have been transferred, Party at Mrs. M^x0ogan’s A Sncceas. The wives of Fort Bragg officers, who have organized a luncfiieon club, enjoyed their first luncheon last Fri day. This was at the home of Mrs. John McGoogan. Tables for lunch eon and bridge afterwards were ip rooms where attractive arrangements of garden flowers were used. A de licious luncheon was served by Mrs. McGoogan's Circle of the Presbyter ian Woman’s Auxiliary. WIN IN ESSAY CONTEST. Mary Elizabeth Harris won first place and Elizabeth Hodgin second, in a National Defense essay contest sponsored recently by the American Legion Auxiliary of Raeford. Mrs. Arthur D. Gore, chairman of the contest, presented the awards to these girls last Wednesday, during tte chapel period. Lucy and Lois Sumhey- spent Thursday of last week in'^Charlotte Lt. and Mrs. Hughes, of Marion, S. C., are making their home with Major and Mrs. Ward at the home of Dr. and Mrs. R. A. Matheson. Mrs. Mrs. Younger Snead and children will join Lt. Snead at Screven Sun day. ,, Miss Jatae Grey, Bible teacher at Fayetteville, Mrs. Elbert McLeod, of Timberland, Miss Alice McConnell, Bible teacher at Red Springs, Ruth Stuart, of Flora MaedOpald, and Mrs. Henry Poole, of Antioch, attended a Bible meeti^ at, Wilmington Sat urday. White flowers and a wed ding scene coitered the bride’s 'table. Places were marked with miniature brides. In the living room covers were laid for four each at three small tables. Pink rosebuds cen tered the tables and vases of phik roses were used in the room. A luncheon in three courses was serv ed. Ihe color motif of pink and green was carried out in the courses. Brown entertained for Misses Lorenna Falls and Miss Maxie McLaurin, brides- elect of the early summer at -the home of Mrs. Brown. Flower arrangements in the recep tion rooms were outstandingly beau tiful. Bridal tallies were used and each honoree’s place at the bridge table was marked with an exqui site corsage of pink rosebuds and valley lilies. Bridge and rook were playqd. Mrs. Clyde Upchurch won high score prize in bridge and Mrs. Hallie Gatlin in rook. Mrs. Lewis Upchurch held floating prize in bridge and Miss Leone Currie in rook. Misses Falls and McLaurin were given crystal cake plates. Refreshments consisted of an ice course, served on a beautifully ap pointed plate. A real doll in' bridal array, veil and all, was on each plate. Individual molds of pink cream, daintily decorated cakes and mints in calla lily molds were on the plates.
