C Social Item IS - Personals ❖ ^ ^ PHONE- w 3521 MePBAUL—PEELE The Snead’s Grove Methodist Church was the scene of a lovely -wedding Saturday morning, June 28, 1941, at 11:00 o’clock when Miss Willie Peele became the bride of - James McPhaul of Red Springs. The Rev. E. H. Measmer, pastors~of the bride, officiated, using the impressive ring ceremony. The altar Was decorated with floor baskets, pines. Queen Anne’s Lace and ferns. Before the ceremony. Miss Nancy Monroe of Laurinburg played a pre lude of wedding music. Prior to the ceremony, Mrs. Ciurtis G. Griffin of Dimn sang At Dawning and I Love You Truly. Serving as ushers were Mr. Wade Legette, of Winston Salem, and Mr. Graham McPhaul of Red Springs. The bride groom had as his best man, his brother, Mr. Walter Mc Phaul of Oxford. Mrs. Raymond Sowell of Harts- ville, S. C.. niece of the bride, was [ame of honor. he bride entered with her ne- hew, Mr. D. B. Quick, by whom le was given in marriage. The bride was lovely in a costume suit of natural and brown with harmonizing accessories. Her shoul der corsage was yeUow rose buds and lily of the valley. ^ Immediately following the cere mony the young couple left on a trip to unannounced points. Upon their return they will make their home in Red Springs. * Mrs. McPhaul is the youngest daughter of Mrs. Sallie Peele and the late Mr. Peele, of near Laurin burg. She graduated froih the Laurin burg High School and Eastern Caro lina Teachers College. For the past six years sbP has been a member of the faculty of Mingo High School near Dunn, N. C. Mr. McPhaul is the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. McPhaul of Red Springs. He attended North Caro lina State College. He is engaged in farming and lumbering. Mrs. McPhaul has been shown several courtesies since the anno uncement of her engagement. MUSE—LIVINGSTON The marriage- ]j|Iiss~ Virginia Livingston and Mr. Charles E. Muse, Jr., was solemnized on Friday, June 27, at the Methodist parsonage on McRae Street, in Laurinburg, with Rev H. K. King ofliciating. The ceremony was witnessed by a few intimate friends of the young couple. Mr>|and Mrs. Muse left immediate ly after their marriage for a short wedding trip to Virginia and Wash ington. D. C. They are making their home for the time with the groom’s parents. Register of Deeds and Mrs. Cv E. Muse in Laurinburg. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Jasper Livingston and the late Mrs. Livingaton. She made her home in Laurinburg with her grandparents, the late Mr. and Mrs. P. H. Living ston, for a number of years. She was graduated from the Womans College at Greensboro and taught one year at Aberdeen and last year in the Raeford schools. Mr. Muse, son of the Register of Deeds and Mrs. C. E. Muse, is a graduate of the Laurinburg high school and attended Washington- Jefferson College, Washington, Pa. He is associated with the Farm im plement and Hardware Co., of Lau rinburg. TEA GIVEN FOR MRS. CLYDE UPCHURCH, JR. Mrs. T. B. Upchurch, Sr., and Mrs. Clyde Upchurch, Sr., entertained at the home of the former for more than one hundred guests at a lea Saturday afternoon, honoring their daughter-in-law, Mrs. Clyde Up- churdi, Jr., the former Miss Lorenna Falls, of Gastonia. Receiving with the hostesses and honoree were Alwbrthy Upchurch and Lucile HuU^ison, of Washington, D. C., and Miss Isabella Wilson of Davidson. Guests were greeted at the door by Mrs. Lewis Upchurch and Mrs. J. S. Johnson. Mrs. H. A. Cam eron introduced the guests to the receiving line. From the drawing room, Mrs. T. B. Upchurch, Jr., and Mrs. Tom Cam eron directed into the dining room, where Mrs. Paul Dezerne, Mrs. Rob ert Gatlin, Mrs. H. C. McLauchlin, and Mrs. K. A. McDonald received. Presiding at the tea table were Mrs. J. C. Thomas and Mrs. W. C. Brown. The table, carrying out the bridal colors of green and white, was beautifully decorated with white gladiolas, shasta daisies, and gypso- philia. Refreshments were served by Misses Elsie Upchurch, Molly and Mdrie Cameron, Josephine McLauch lin, Betsy .Ann Cole, Faye Baker, Leonora Currie, and Katherine Ann Walker. Mints were passed by Flor ence Camei-on, Betty and Mary Sue Upchurch. Mrs. W. M. Thon\as and Mrs. J. B. Thomas showed the way to the re gister, presided over by Mrs. C. W. Seate and Mrs. J. A. McGoogan. Mrs. J. W. Walker and Mrs. A. L. O’Briant showed the way to the punch bowl on the porch. Serving punch were, Agnes Mae Johnson, Jennie Clark, Elizabeth Hoyle of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Leon Currie of Southern Pines. Goodbyes were spoken to Mrs. Fred Johnson and Mrs. W. L. Poole. A profusion of gladiolas, roses and other midsummer flowers were ar ranged throughout the home, making a lovely setting for the occasion. SOCIETY OF CHRISTIAN SERVICE TO MEET The Society of Christian Service of the Methodist Church -will meet Monday afternoon, July 14. at 4 o’clock as follows. A charming event of the week was the bridge luncheon.-given .cm Tuesday at 10:30 by Mre. Tom Cam eron and Mrs. T. B. Upchurch, Jr., at the home of the latter, in honor of Mrs. Clyde Upchurch, Jr., a recent bride. Four tables of bridge were played in rooms made/'lovely with garden fiowers. At the conclusion of contract, a delidious and refreshing luncheon was served. Mrs. Upchurch was remembered with a gift of crystal, while high score prize was won by Mrs Alfred Cole. Out-of-town guests were, Mrs. Tom Breeden, and Miss Harriet, of Bennettsville, S. C., Miss Isabelle Wilson, of Davidson, Mrs. Gray and Mrs. McLean of Sanitorium and Miss Elizabeth Hoyle of Fort Lauderdale. Fla. BRIDGE CLUB MEETS The Wednesday afternoon Bridge club met last week with Mrs K. A. McDonald at her home on the Fayet teville Road. Mrs. McDonald used red, white and blue decorations. After seyeral progressions, scores were totaled and Mrs. lif. T. Poovey was awarded high score prize. Mrs. Arch Graham was guest of the club. Cantaloupe a la mode was served. Miss Minnie Golstein of New York, visited her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. I Mann a few days the first of the week. Screven, Ga. spent the fourth at home Lt. and Mrs. Younger Snead and children of Ft Screven, Ga., are spending a few days in town thb week. Sargeant and Mrs. Johnson, who recently had an apartment with Mrs. Fuller, have also moved into quarter? on the Post Mrs H. P. Ward and Mrs. E.
