The Rev. Harry K. Holland heard the vows. The ring ceremony was used. The couple stood before an impro vised altar against a back ground of traditional green and white with seven branched candelabra. The candles were lighted by Lt. Neill James Blue of Fort Screven, Ga.^ There were no attendant; and the bride and groom entered togethr. ‘ The bride was lovely in a two piece costume of waterfall blue with contrasting accessories and corsag4 of orchids. Only the immediate families of the young ^uple w€(re present. , The bride is the daughter of Mr. Lacy Franklin Clark and the late Bessie Blue Clark and the grand daughter of Mrs. James A. Blue with wnom she has made her home. She graduated from Raeford High School and attended Flora Mcadonald Col- ege and Woman’s College at Greens boro. She was presented to State society in 1939 in Raleigh. Mr. Bethune is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Alexander Bethune of Raeford. He attended the University of North Carolina and now holds a position with Propst Construction Company of Concord. Mr. and Mrs. Bethune will be at hoipe in Concord after the first of August. Y. W. A. MEETING Y, W. A. girls of the Baptist church held its regular monthly meeting Monday night at 8 o’clock with Miss Dorothy Secrest, as hostess. Dorothy is making her home /With Sgt. and Mrs. Graham. During the profiram Mamie Nivens and Katie Rae Odom, who attended the Y.. W. A. Confef- ence at Ridgecrest, made very iriter- esting reports. During the social hour, the girls hemmed towels which are to be sent to the Baptist Orph- ange in Thoriiasville. The hostess served delicious refreshments. BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT ' Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Farmer of Route one announce the birth of a son, Joseph Alex, on Sunday, July 13, 1941. Little Joseph has been at High^ smith Hospital since Monday night, July 14, but is expected to return home this week. OMEGA CIRCLE MEETS i The Omega Clegg Circle of the Methodist Church held its regular monthly meeting Monday night at 8:00 o’clock at the home of Mrs. A. R. Morris, with Mrs. Fay Morris assisting hostess. After a short business meeting and the program, the hostesses served refreshing lemonade and cookies. MRS. ARAB STUART HOSTESS Mrs. Arab G. Stuart entertained her bridge club Wednesday afternoon with Mrs. A. K. Currie, Mrs. Brooks, Mrs. Annie Mae Brown, an^ Mrs. Marshall Thomas, as guests. High Score Club prize was won by Mrs. R. L. Murray and Mrs. H. McK. McDiarmid received the consolation prize. Visitor’s high score prize went to Mrs. Thomas. The hostess served a delicious salad course. MRS. HANCOCK GIVES LUNCHEON BOR NEKS. RAY Mrs. Joe Hancock entertained at a three course luncheon at hfr home on North Main. Street, Wednesday in honor of Mrs. Arnold Ray of Lexington. Covers were laid for sixteen at four small tables placed in a setting of g^jrden flowers. Miniature bim- quets of flowers were tied to the place cards at each place. An honor gift was present^ to the honor guest and linen handkerchiefs to the ^ut of town visitors. .Guests present were Mrs. Arnold Ray of Lexington, Misses Elizabeth and Laura Hoyle, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Miss Hattie Patterson of Winter kaven ,Fla., Mrs. Louis Reagan of King^mrt, Tenn., Mrs. Calvin Jones of Beaufort, Misses Thplma Hall. Marguritte Cameron, Louise Blue, Annie McKeithan, • Mrs. Kathleen Wilson, Mrs. Harry Green, Mrs. Fay Morris, Mrs. William Lamont, Jr., Mrs. W. D. Brown, and Mrs. Jack Morris. Mrs. D. C. Mrs. Irving and SaiHbara are doing nicely and will soon be leavh^ the Post Hospital. Lt. and Ms. F, W. Lamirand an nounce the arrival of a little son at the Post Hospital, July 18th. Mrs. R. N. Short, Mrs. R. M. Her rick and Mrs. Nidc Roberts ard spend ing the week at M3rrtle Beach. The R. O. W. C. will not meet this Friday due to the absence of so many members. OV NATtONAL DEFENSE. r WOMAN’S AUXILIARY MEETS The Woman’s Auxiliary of the Presbyterian church met at the church at 4:00 o’clock, Monday after noon. Mrs. Clarence Lytch, president, presided! Mrs. Currie McLauchlin, Mrs. Clarence Lytch, and Mrs. Jim Poole, who attended the Auxiliary Conference at Montreat, gave very interesting*' reports about Con ference. Annie Kelly, who was sent to the Christian Conference for Negro Women, in- Winston Salem by the Auxiliary, gave a report on their work. RE^NT BRIDES HONORED. On Saturday, July 19, Mrs. Robert Gatlin entertained at her home with a three course luncheon honoriiig Mrs. Charles Sutton, of Fayetteville, who was before her marriage Mary Alice Poe, anfi Mrs. Clyde Upchurch, Jr., recent brides. Before the luncheon bridge was played. Mrs. H. L. Gatlin, Jr., won high score prize. Both of the honorees were remem bered with giftsjand also Miss Ce celia McKeithan, of Fayetteville, who is a bride-elect, and was a guest 'at the luncheon. GIVES LUNCHEON A lovely luncheon was given at the home of Mrs. R. L. Murray with Mrs. E. D. Johnson and Mrs. E. B. Campbell, joint hostesses, on Tues day of 'this week, v The home was beautifully arranged throughout with roses and gladoli. After the luncheon both bridge and rook were played. Bridge prizes were won by Mrs. K. A. McDlonald and Mrs. Arab Stuart. Rook prizes were won by Mrs. Moss, of the Sanar torium, and Mrs. Margie Townsend. MA. Clyde Upchurch, Jr., and Mrs. Thomas McLauchlin, recent brides, were both remembered with lovely gifts. G. A. MEETING The July meeting of the Girl’s Auxiliary of the Baptist Chuch, met at the church at 4:00 on Monday afternoon. The meeting was called to order by the president. Mary Grey Helton. A very interest ing program on Japan was given and one new member. Marvel Lee, was initiated. ^ \ Friday, July 18, the Girl’s Auxi liary had a study course from 10:00 a. m. to 2:00 p. m.
