The Russians claim to have shot down a large number of German planes just how many I do not recall but on good authority C(i6 Allied ships have been sunk in the Atlantic. Just as I have repeatedly said, the Japs know the islands in the Sisuth west Pacific Ocean, and will have to be repeatedly driven from footholds they may get on those nearer Australia, i If people used to live farming when ' they received only 8 1-2 cents a pound fur their cotton, it looks like thoy might be full-handed when they get 22 cents a pound. But something takes alt they get no matter what pric they get. I have lived through three wars, and hope to be thriving when this one is over. I mean by thriving, being m good health and strength so I can eon Unite to eat. chink and sleep like a log. O Feed Wheat. The Commodity Credit Corporation has discontinued sales of feed wheat except for a small quantity to be used in the flood area and in deficit feed areas along the Atlai.tic and Pacific coasts. O Klack market It is estimated that 25 per cent of all cattle slaughtered in the last three months Ikis gone into black markets. Feed Dr. E. C. Collins, N. C. One took at the instrument panel and you feel the tame way. It's hard to be lieve that ordinary mortals could ever master the maze of dials, buttons, levers and (witches required to fly and fight thirty-ton bomber. But young Americans are doing it with deadly efficiency. (Ask Adolf, Benito or Tojo.) And they don't learn their obt just by reading book. It takes intensive training and practical experi ence to produce the bomber teams who risk their lives together.. The electric power business is like that. Yon can't make kilowatt-hours with theories. You've got to learn how by growing up in the business. That's the way most electric company men got their start. It's the American way. Do a better job and you get better jobs to do. The system is simple, but it works. It works so well that America's big peacetime industries became great war machines overnight. It works so well that the electric com panics under business management were able to push power production up and up to supply war plants with far more electric power than any nation has eve? known before and at low rates. The same business system that is help ing to win the war today will also enrich the peace when air freighters are delivering radios and refrigerators instead of block-busters I CAROLINA POWER AND LIGHT COMPANY
