Nation Faces It's
Greatest (Coafl
Shortage In '44
"New York, May 30 (AP) Dr. C. J. Potter, deputy solid fuels
administrator for war said today that the nation has only a 30
day supply of coal above ground and he predicted for the com
ing winter the greatest coal shortage this country ever faced.
We are up against the stark reality of a shortage that can't be
averted, Dr. Potter said."
Under government regulations we cannot deliver to anyone
more than three-fourths of their annual requirements less the
amount they had on hand April 1st. If you used eight tons
last season and had two tons on hand April 1st, we can deliv
er you only four tons.
We have some coal on hand, not as much as we want, but as
much as we can get. As long as we have it we can deliver you
on the above basis. No orders accepted for later delivery.

The cost of living has gone up like this
i.it
the price of electricity has' come down like this!
NOBODY needs to tell you that the cost of
living has been soaring toward high C.
But maybe you do need a reminder that
the cost of electricity has been sliding deep
down.
If yours is an average household, you're
getting over twice as much electricity for
your money today as you did 15 years ago.
And 1944 government figures show that the
average price has continued to ease off a
little even since war began. That fact
ought to be music to your ears!
Getting prices down and keeping them
down is one of the electric industry's great
est achievements.
It took a lot of planning, perspiring and
practical business management to do this
job in wartime. All our people played a part.
