Her sister, Rosa lie, who had typhus lever, is much tter. Lt. Commander William' Covington spent the week-end in Raeford. He came by plane from Miami where he is now stationed. His trip was a business one. Mrs. J. K. Wilsin end son, Billy, of Charlotte, were weekend guests of Mrs. Wilson's mother, Mrs. Colin Shaw. Miss Josephine Hall, Miss Louise Blue, Miss Sarah Ella Conoly and Mrs. Woody Hendrick left Wednesday of this week for a week's stay in New York. Miss Mamie Niven visited her sis Miss Mamie Niven spent last week in Townsend's Inlet, N. J., visiting her sister, Mrs. W. J. Shellem. Mrs. Robert Weaver recently re husbarfd, who is stationed there. . where she spent a few days with her turned from Fort Knox, Kentucky, Mrs. Joe Maxwell has been ill for the past week, but is somewhat improved now. Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Chasey are spending a few days with Mrs. Cha sey's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Will Rose. They will leave soon for Long Branch, N. J., where they will visit rela tives. Recently Mr. Chasey received a medical discharge from the army. Miss Mildred Oliver of Philadelphia spent a few days last week with her sister, Mrs. Walter Baker. Miss Audrey Cothran, Edwin Hasty, and Warren Childress visited Miss Juanita Cothran at the N. C. O. Hospital in Gastonia Sunday. Miss Cothran is a nurses aide at the hospital. Mrs. A. V. Sanders, who has been iil, is much improved. Misses Helen Baker and Mildred Sanders accompanied Misses Gladys and Edith Sanders to Raleigh Tues day. Gladys returned to her studies at Chapel Hill and Edith to Wake Forest. Mr. and Mrs. L. D. McFadyen and children spent Sunday in Maxton visiting Mr. and Mrs. Jap Gainey. Mr. Milton Campbell, who became ill Sunday, is much better. Lt. and Mrs. James of Macon, Ga., were week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Tommie Upchurch. Lt. James is sta tioned at the Maxton Airbase. Mrs. Martin McKeithan spent last week in Durham with her sisters, Mrs. Barton Hardister and Mrs. Har vey Ennis. Mrs. Kathleen Wilson spent the week-end with Mrs. Ed Lee in Dunn. They were joined in Raleigh Satur day by Mrs.Lillian McEachern who also was a guest of Mrs. Lee. Miss Faye Baker of Meredith col lege, Raleigh, spent the week-end at home. Mrs. Frank Williams has returned to Raeford .to be with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. N. B. Blue, while Capt. "Williams is overseas. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Lowe of Char lotte, Miss Maude Poole of Belmont and Miss Elizabeth Hoyle of Charlotte spent the weekend in Raeford. Miss Hoyle was the guest of her sister, Mrs. Tommie Upchurch. Mrs. H. C. McLauchlin and Mrs W. T. Covington are in Winston-Salem this week attending the annual meeting of the Woman's Auxiliary of the Presbyterian Synod of North Carolina. Mrs. Hallie Gatlin is quite sick and has been confined to her room for a week. Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Mrs. Jessie Gibson, Mrs. B. B. Cole and Miss Margaret McKenzie at tended the District P. T. A. meeting which was held in Laurinhurs feet Saturday. The Chaminade Music Club did not meet Tuesday of this week. ROBERTS-McPHAUL Captain and Mrs. John A. McPhaul announce the marriage of their sister, Mary, to W. W. Roberts. The mar riage took place in Bennettsville, S. C, on Tuesday, October 10th. The couple is a very popular one in Hoke county. Mrs. Roberts is a teacher in the Raeford schools and Mr. Rob erts is register of deeds of Hoke county. O NIVEN TOMLIN Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Niven have announced the engagement of their daughter Mamie Elizabeth to Pfc. Charles O. Tomlin of the 569th A. A. Bn., Ft. Bragg. Pfc. Tomlin is from Akron, Ohio. Miss Niven is now em ployed on the office staff of the Edin burgh Cotton Mills in Raeord. f I PELDGED AGD GAINESVILLE, Ga., Miss Elsie Upchurch, freshman at Brenau college and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Upchurch of Raeford, was pledged to Alpha Gamma Delta National social sorority. Miss Upchurch is a popular arid active student on Brenau campus.. O CAMERON-WILSON VOWS ANNOUNCED Announcement of the marriage of Miss Mattie Gladys Wilson of Fay etteville and Raeford, to John Bryan Cameron of Raeford, has been made by the bride's mother, Mrs. James A. Wilson of Raeford. The marriage was solemnized on August 12, 1944. Mrs. Cameron, daughter of Mrs. Wilson and the late James A. Wilson, has made her home in Fayetteville for the past few years where she has held a responsibile position in the commercial department of the Caro lina Telephone and Telegraph com pany. Mr. Cameron, son of Mr. ann Mrs. J. A .Cameron of Raeford, is clerk of superior court of Hoke county. The couple will make their home in Raeford where they have a broad circle of friends. Mrs. Cameron will continue her work with the telephone company. MRS. MARSHALL THOMAS HOSTESS TO HER CLUB Mrs. Marshall Thomas was hostess to her bridge club last Wednesday afternoon.. Mrs. Thomas' living room was attractively arranged with early fall flowers. Two tables were in play. After several interesting progressions, Mrs. N. B. Blue was awarded high score prize for club members, and Mrs. A. K. Currie won visitor's high. Mrs. W. T. Poovey of Granite Falls, out of town guest of the club, was also remembered with an attractive gift. The hostess served a delectable sand wich plate with coffee. CAPITAL DISTRICT MET WEDNESDAY The nineteenth annual meeting of the Captial district, North Carolina Federation of Music clubs, was held Wednesday October 18 at Flora Mac donald college. Red Springs, with the Linda Vardell Music club hostess. The Capital district is compose! of clubs in Raleigh, Wake Forest, Dur ham, Chapel Hill, Sanford, Raeford, Rockingham, Laurinburg, Red Springs Lumberton, and Fayetteville. Mrs. O. L. McFadyen is district director, and Miss Flora Canaday of Smithfield, junior Counselor. A varied musical program followed the business session and several state officers arid departmental chairmen attended the meeting. Mrs. J. Ken neth Pfohl of Winston-Salem, state president, addressed the senior clubs at the morning hour and the juniors during the afternoon session. The Chaminaide Music club of Rae ford gave two numbers on the pro gram. Those singing in the sex tette were: Mrs. J. S. Poole, Mrs. Marshall Thomas, Mrs. Ina Bethune, Mrs. W. L. Barrington, Mrs. A. K. Currie and Mrs. R. L. Murray. Miss Audrey Brunkhurst was ac companist. Mrs. Clyde Upchurch, chairman of the Raeford club, also attended the meeting.
