After our visit here, we went back to Charleston and over the Cooper River brid i . Thi.7 bridge is two miles 1' ;:g and was the highest bridge in the United States before the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco was built. Passing over the brid ge was the only part of the trip I must admit I did not exactly enjoy - especially since the first cars were just allowed to go across the bridge about 2 hours earlier. The bridge had been damaged a few weeks be fore when a ship broke an chor during a strom. You can imagine the noise a bus load of women can make all talking at once. There was very little conversation however, while we were go- 1:. over the bridge. We had dinner in Gccrge ir.vn and visited Brook green garden near Myrtle Beach on our way home. The garden was formerly own ed by Mr. and Mrs. Hunting ton, who, several years ago, gave the property to the state of South Carolina. We hope Mrs. McLaurin's plants grow. They should. She didn't thank anyone for them. The next tour we make we would like to suggest taking along a secretary. Some of our group who car ry on such a heavy corre spondence sometimes delay the bus. We had a wonderful trip. A grand group of folks made the tour and when another club tour is announced I'm sure all the women who went to Charleston will want to go along.
