Lewis were char ming and gracious hostesses at two lovely parties last week, given at the home of the latter. On both occasions the home was very attractive with arrangements of mixed summer flowers. On Friday at one o'clock they entertained with a lun cheon and afterwards rook was played at four tables, with high score prize going to Mrs. H. W. B. Whitley. Mrs. Wiley, mother of Mrs. H. K. Holland, and Mrs. C. P. Vinson, were remembered with gifts by the hostesses. Again on Saturday eve ning they were hostesses at a bridge dinner. Covers were laid for guests at six tables placed in the living and din ing rooms and on the porch. After a delectable meal brid ge was played with Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Lester, Jr., win ning high score prize. Bingo was then played and Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Lester, Jr., again won the prize. o Among the out of town guests who attended the Car , ter-Pearson wedding last Sunday were Mrs. Roger Re gan and Mrs. Sarah Smith of Ghio, N. C, Mr. and Mrs. Belton Livingston and Mrs. McCall of Laurinburg, Mr. and Mrs. Archie Clark of Red Springs. WOOD-MONROE Mr. and Mrs. Allen W. Wood of Rockfish announce the engagement of their daughter, Julia Ann, to Douglas Cameron Monroe, son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd A. Monroe of Raeford, Rt. 2. The wedding will take place June 2. SPECIAL SERVICES There will be a special Mother's Day service at Par ker's Methodist church Sun day evening at 7:30. o Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Mrs. Sallie Cameron and Miss Belle Graham visited friends in Coats last Tues day and Wednesday. They returned by Kipling for a short visit with friends. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Mc- Phaul and son, David, have moved into the apartment recently vacated by Mr. and Mrs. Jason Barnes in the McEachern house this week. Maurice Webb spent sev eral days this week in Aug usta, Ga., visiting his brot her. Clement Byrd, who for the past several months has been the druggists for the Hut chinson drug store here, left last week for Wilmington where he has accepted a po sition. W. E. Barker of Greensboro replaces him. Miss Mary Lewis, accom panied by an old school friend, Miss Catherine Mc Geachy of Fayetteville, spent the week end in Winston Salem. Mas. Paul Dickson, Sr., left Monday for Camp Le juene where she will spend the next ten days visiting her son, Lt. and Mrs. Alvis Dickson. Mrs. H. A. Cameron and'i daughters, Florence and Ma rie, spent the week end in Winston-Salem apd were guests of Miss Molly Cam eron at Salem college. They went especially to attend the May Day program. Rev. M. D. McNeill, Mrs. D. B. Teague and Mr. Hol mes of Sanford visited in the homes of Mrs. Smith McKeithan, Mrs. J. A. Blue and Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Mc Neill on Monday. MRS. GRAHAM MONROE HONORED THURSDAY Misses Margaret McNeill and Katherine Baker enter tained at a dinner party, given at the home of the lat ter, last Thursday evening honoring Mrs. Graham Mon roe, who, before her mar riage on Easter Sunday, was Miss Helen Baker. A profusion of summer flowers decdrated the living and dining rooms, and covers were laid for twelve guests. The hostesses presented the honoree a gift of double crystal oandle holders. Mr. and Mrs. Younger Snead had as their guests over the week end Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Hill of Kinston. Mrs. Snead and Mrs. Hill are sisters. Mrs. Neill A. McDonald has as her guest this week her sister, Mrs. Claude Bis hop, of Greensboro. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Brown and Mrs. W. D. Brown spent Sunday in Durham. They went especially to see w. u. crown, who has been a patient at Duke hospital since last Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey War lick and family spent Sun day in Whiteville visiting relatives. Mr. and Mrs. George Be thune and children, Jennie Blue and Gay, of Concord spent Sunday afternoon in town. Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Paschal of Greensboro spent the week end at the home of her sister Mrs. Joe Gulledge. Misses Jennie Warren and Edna Earl Coxe returned from Wriehtsville Beach Sunday after spending the past week there. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Pow ell and daughter have moved to the Antioch community. for the past several years they have made their home in town with Mrs. Powell's sisters, Misses Bonnie and Lela Teal. Sgt. Walter Parks, son of Mr. and Mrs. Milton Parks of Shannon, was separated from the service last Thurs day at Fort Bragg after spending the past 11 months on Luzon and in Japan. Hugh Lowe of Charlotte visited in the home of Mr. and Mrs. D. S. Poole over the week end. Mrs. Lowe, who spent last week here, returned to Charlotte with him. Mrs. George Weaver re turned from Highsmith hos pital Saturday after being a patient there for the past week. Mrs. T. N. McLauchlin at tended the Southeastern Dis trict meeting of the Bible Teachers of N. C. in White ville on Saturday afternoon and evening of last week, and was selected president for the next term. Sam Epstein is a patient at Highsmith hospital where he was taken Sunday night for treatment. Herbert McKeithan, Jr., of the University of North Carolina, spent the week end at home. Mr. and Mrs. Graham Mc Leod of Baden, N. C. spent Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Hampton. Mrs. McLeod and Mrs. Hampton are sisters.
