DOUGLAS MONROE ONORED RECENTLY Mrs. Herman Koonce and Mrs. Walter Bostic enter tained with a lovely party at the Rockfish community house recently honoring Mrs. Douglas Monroe, recent bride. The spacious hall was ar ranged with large tables dec orated with pretty summer flowers for the games. On arrival the guests registered in the bride's book and also gave a wish, after which tthey were' seated to the tables and enjoyed playing bingo and other games. . The honoree was then ask ed to look in a chest which was filled with many lovely and useful gifts, after which punch and cookies were ser ved to the 40 guests pres ent. Mrs. Graham Monroe, re cent bride, was also remem bered with a gift. MONROE-WOOD Miss Julian Wood, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Wood of Rockfish, and Doug las Monroe, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Monroe of Rae ford, Route 2, were united in marriage June 2 in the Rock fish" Tabernacle Baptist church. The Rev. E. B. Brooker, pastor of the bride performed the ceremony. Mrs. Malcolm Gillis of Fay etteville, sister of the groom, presented a program of wed ding music. The bride wore a white jersey dress with black and white accessories and a cor sage of orchids. 1 Mrs. Wood, mother of the ""bride, wore a white shetir dress and a corsage oi pinK orchids, and Mrs. Monroe, mother of the groom, wore a black sheer printed dress and a corsage of red roses. After the ceremony the bride's parents entertained at their home with a buffet luncheon, after which the couple left for a wedding trip to Myrtle Beach. They will make their home at Rae ford, Route 2. o Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Free man and family and Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Freeman and son, George, attended a birthday dinner at Biscoe Sunday, which was given in honor of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Freeman. Miss Doris Norton, who was a student at Flora Mac Donald college this year, left Monday for Wilson where she will attend sum mer school at the Atlantic Christain. college. Mrs. Angus Currie and daughter of Red Springs spent the week, end at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Campbell. Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Howie of Darlington, S. C. spent Tuesday at the home of her sister, Mrs. H. L. Gat lin, Sr. They were en route to Ft. Bragg to meet their son who is being separated from the service. Mr. and Mrs. J. L. McNeill had as their guests Sunday Rev. and Mrs. M. D. Mc Neill, Mrs. D. B. Teague and Mrs. Gabe Holmes of San ford. Mrs. Max Helns of San ford was the guest of her mother, Mrs. J. A. Blue Sunday. Miss Sarah Lytch and Miss Mary Elizabeth Cummings of Winston Salem spent the week end at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Lytch. MISS SUDDRETH HOSTESS Miss Elizabeth Suddreth was hostess at a picnic sup per, served on the lawn at her home last Saturday eve ning, when she entertained in honor of her week end guests, Misses Dorothy and Ruth Anna White of Fay etteville, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. V. R. White. Guests other than the hos tess and honorees were Anne and Gwen Gore, Alice Sut ton Matheson, Betty Holland, Eleanor Leach, Anne Wal ters, Carlene Freeman, Bel le Smith and Beverly Hod gin. o COCA COLA BRIDGE CLUB MEETS The Coca Cola bridge club met last Wednesday after noon at the home of Mrs. Arch Graham. High score prize for club members was awarded to Mrs. Harry Greene and high score for visitors went to Mrs. T. B. Lester, Jr. Mrs. Graham served a delicious frozen salad with ice tea. o Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Dark spent Tuesday in Charlotte. MRS. JULIAN JOHNSON BRIDGE CLUB HOSTESS The senior bridge club was entertained by Mrs. Julian Johnson on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Johnson's sister, Mrs. Talbot Nunally of Thomasville, Ga. was an especial guest. Two tables of club members with Mrs. Nunally played for several hours. Mrs. J. W. McLauch lin and sister, Mrs. Archie McFadyen and Mrs. Currie McLauchlin joined the party for the tea hour when Mrs. Johnson served a very love ly salad plate with assorted sandwiches, cookies and pas tries with iced tea. Mrs. Paul Dickson, Sr. won the club prize at bridge and Mrs. Currie McLauchlin was the lucky player at Bin go. Mrs. Johnson presented Mrs. Nunally with a gift, o Little David and DeLane McFadyen of Fayetteville are spending this week with their great-igrfcndmother, Mrs. B. R. Gatlin. Mrs. Charles Riddle and Mrs. Hector McNeill, Sr. visited Mr. and Mrs. Hector McNeill, Jr. in Hamlet one day this week. PICNIC FOR ELIZABETH JONES Mr. and Mrs. John Allen Jones entertained 104 guests with a picnic dinner last Sunday, June 9, honoring their daughter, Elizabeth, on her sixth birthday. At one o'clock dinner was spread on a picnic table in the back yard, after which Elizabeth received many lovely gifts. Among the out of town guests were Mr. and Mrs. Paul Moore of Fayetteville and Dixon McNeill and fami ly of Lumberton. o Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Cole, Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Lester, Jr. and Mr. and Mrs. Colin Scarborough were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. M. T. Poovey last evening. Mr. and Mrs. M. T. Poovey spent last week at Myrtle Beach where Mr. Poovey at tended the Textile conven tion at the Ocean Forest Hotel. Dr. and Mrs. T. W. Dick son of Syracuse, N. Y., who were guests of Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Gatlin, Jr. last week, are now visiting friends and relatives in Bladen county. Mr. and Mrs. Benton Thomas are leaving this week for Myrtle Beach where Mr. Thomas will attend a con vention at the Ocean Forest Hotel. UPCHURCHES HAVE FISH FRY The Clyde Upchurches en tertained Mr. and Mrs. Ed Cothrane and Mr. and Mrs. Arndt of Raleigh, Dr. and Mrs. McRae of Red Springs, the George Bullards of Max ton and several members of the Upchurch family at a fish fry Wednesday after noon. o Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Lewis, Misses Mary and Marian Lewis are spending this week in New York City. Mrs. J. S. Johnson, Miss Agnes Mae Johnson and Mr. and Mrs. Talbot Nunally of Thomasville, Ga. left today for Myrtle Beach for a stay of several 3ays. Mrs. John Walker visited her sister, Mrs. Turner, in Richmond last week, and from there she went to Wil liamsburg to attend the gra duation of her daughter, Miss Catherine Ann Walker, at Mary Washington college. Mr. and Mrs. Neill Senter spent the week end in Kip ling, where they went es pecially to attend the wed ding of Mr. Senter's niece. Misses Doris White Mc Neill and Virginia Buie left Wednesday for Salisbury to spend several weeks with friends. Among the pupils of Bec ton Bass, who were present ed at a dance recital at the Senior High school in Fay etteville on Tuesday even ing, June 11, were Jenelle Snead, Faye Dark and Cath erine McDowell of Raeford. Dr. and Mrs. R. A. Mathe son and Alice Sutton Math eson will leave next Tues day, June 18th, for Lake Lure where Miss Matheson will remain for eight weeks at the Lake Lure Camp for girls. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Mc Bryde spent Sunday at Mrs. McBryde's home in Golds-boro. Mrs. Ben Currie has been a patient at Pittman hos pital since Sunday. Israel Mann spent Tues day and Wednesday in Char lotte buying merchandise for his store. Mrs. W. E. Freeman of Aberdeen spent Tuesday at the home of Mrs. H. L. Gat lin, Sr. Mr. and Mrs. N. A. Mc Donald have as their guest Mrs. McDonald's mother, Mrs. Nash of Goldsboro.
