Crore and Mrs. , John Walker at the home of Mrs. Gore. ‘ Miss _ iBlizabetb Parker, senior in Hoke County High school who recently won the District Orator ical contest in ‘ Fayetteville, gave her speech entitled “The Rights We Defend.” Mrs. R. L. Murray led" the 'members in pledging al legiance to the flag after which* the national anthem was sung. Miss Mayme McKeithan gave the chaplain’s prayer. | ' Mrs. Gore, president, presided over the business session during ■which reports from different of-, ficers were given. Several com mittees were also appointed. The Auxiliary voted to send repre sentatives from Hoke High school .to Girls’ State to be held in Greens boro during June. Mrs. Israel ■ Mann, chairman of hospital com mittee, and all the members of the r committee working with her were j(|LCommended for the splendid work that they had done for the past year at Veterans hospital in Fay etteville. The hostesses served ice cream and cake. 0 — On Friday evening of last week the Hoke County Medical Auxi liary entertainned the doctors of Hoke county at a buffet supper, | which was given at the home ofj Dr. and Mrs. R. L. Murray The^ occasion was in celebration of ^ Doctor’s Day, which was March 30. ' I On arrival each doctor was presented a carnation. i j Arrangements of spring flowers decorated the home. HARTSELL ^CLUB HOSTESS Mrs. Van Hartsell was hostess to her bridge club on Wednesday evening of last week. After sev eral interesting progressions were played Mr. and ^rs. D. B. Marines left Monday for Bre- mington, Washington, after spend ing- a furlough with his parents, Mr and Mrs F. A Keith. Edward Lee, son of Mr and Mrs. W. C. Lee, has been confin ed to his. home since Saturday with tonsilitis. Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Smith, Jr. and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Roper spent Saturday afternoon in Greensboro.
