American womanhood has Ipng enjoyed a freedom and respect ac corded to women in no other part of the world. As in every other phase of democratic life, this po sition of esteem carries with it some definite responsibilities. It is in the home that the pattern of the culture of a people is es tablished. The cradle of demo cracy is in the nation’s homes and families. We. may be happy that our culture is one that emphasizes advancing standards for family living—in the ethical sense as well as in the practical. But no thing is so good that it cannot be made better; better in terms of the family’s health, comfort, education^ happiness, and under standing. .Under the leadership of the home demonstration agents of the Cooperative Extension Ser vice, the farm wmmen of America will continue to make daily home tasks easier, to improve their homes and communities, and to bring about happier and more wholesome living in rural Amer ica. ‘ It is a pleasure for me to join with 3 112 million rural women of the United^States in giving recog nition to National Home Demon stration Week, May 4-11. I urge all women of the Nation to join in pledging anew the ideal of home and family as the’ cor nerstone of freedom and the dem ocratic way 0 life. ■ Sincerely, ' Clinton P, Anderson Secretary of Agriculture WAYSBDE CLUB MEETS monstration of the 4-H club girl’s I The Wayside Home Demonstra tion Club met on the afternoon of April 25, 1947 at 2:30 o’clock at the clubhouse with Mrs. J. .H.
